Carling Cup Draw

It may only be early June, but Wednesday will find out who they play in the first round of the Carling Cup when the draw is made tomorrow morning at 10am.

Despite the competition being used to blood youngsters and play reserve team players for many of the Premiership sides, Owls fans will still be looking forward to the draw as the first slice of action for the forthcoming 2007/08 campaign.

And many will also be looking at the competition as a chance to progress and maybe even reach a Wembley final after under-achieving in cup competitions for many seasons.

But the Owls will have to improve on last season's showing which saw them crash out at the first stage with a shock 4-1 home defeat to League Two club Wrexham at Hillsborough.

All Football League clubs will be involved in the first round draw with Morecambe and Dagenham and Redbridge the newcomers to the competition following promotion from the Conference last term.

Owls fans will be keeping a close eye out for a potential early clash with Sheffield United following the Blades relegation from the Premiership while Charlton and Watford will also be entering at the first stage.

The ties for the first round will take place in the week commencing August 13, just days after the start of the new Coca Cola Championship which kicks-off on Saturday August 11.

Keep your eyes on Vital Sheffield Wednesday at 10am tomorrow to find out who the Owls will be playing, while also tuning in at the same time on Thursday morning when the Championship fixtures are announced by the Football League.

Morecambe at home will do nicely, or putting a second string out against Leeds and still beating them!
