Owls Draw Millers In Cup

Wednesday will travel to local rivals Rotherham United in the first round of the Carling Cup following the draw this morning.

The local derby match could well be the tie of the round and will take place in the week commencing August 13.

A large Owls following will be expected at Millmoor, and no doubt officials at Rotherham will be delighted at the prospect of a big gate following their relegation from League One last season.

And Wednesday will come up against former player Mark Robins who took full control of the Millers last season, failing to keep them in the division.

Wednesday have had mixed results over the Millmoor club in recent seasons, picking up a 2-0 victory away the last time the clubs met on New Year's Day in 2003 but Rotherham enjoyed success at Hillsborough earlier in the same season with a 2-1 win thanks to a late Darren Garner strike.

Sheffield United are back in the first round of the competition and will face Chesterfield at Bramall Lane while Barnsley will welcome Darlington to Oakwell, Dennis Wise will face his close-friend Paul Ince at Macclesfield while Doncaster Rovers host Lincoln City.

The Owls crashed out at the first stage last season with a shock 4-1 home defeat to Wrexham, and will surely be looking for an improved performance this time around!

The exact date and time is yet to be decided but remember to keep checking Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest.

Oye! lol! Can you see where all the stewards are sat on the photo above? That's about where I sit, so you can wave to me! I thought you'd have put the photo up with the half finished stand!!!
herringthorpe
I'll be waving you out your seat when your 4-0 down on 80 minutes and you're going home :) *hopes there isn't a backlash*
nickswfc
Stewards? I thought that was the crowd?
Auckland Owl
Oh Nick - I never leave early! The stewards are sat there cos that's where all the trouble starts!
herringthorpe
What's the deal with that unfinished stand? How 'finished' is it??
nickswfc
Should be a good match. Local derby, should be a good atmosphere and obviously a good result for the Owls. We can't go into this match thinking it'll be easy mind, it's still got to be won!
NicNac
Unfinished! But we have a tent - sorry marquee - for the 'posh' people! We are able to use half of the main side for home fans - so it's like 3 and a half sides.
herringthorpe
An excellent draw for you guys! Well done!

Do any of the games get on TV in the first round? Would be a contender if so
pob
Sorry to disappoint you - but you have drawn Rotherham - we never ever get on telly - we only get on Radio Sheffield if you or the other side from Sheffield aren't playing. sob sob
herringthorpe
Home draw would have been nice, but a good Yorkshire derby is the second best thing i suppose, easy victory!
will it ever happen
