Owls Open At Ipswich

The fixtures for the forthcoming 2007/08 Championship campaign have been released this morning, with Wednesday travelling to Ipswich Town on the opening day.

It's probably not the ideal trek for Owls fans for the first match of the season on Saturday August 11, although a repeat of the victory last season at Portman Road would be perfect for Brian Laws and his men.

Wednesday fans have to wait until 2008 for the first Sheffield derby of the season with United pencilled in for a trip to Hilllsborough on Saturday January 19 while the return fixture at Bramall Lane is set for just a month later, on Saturday February 16.

The first home match of the season is sure to be a toughy with Mick McCarthy bringing his Wolves side to S6 on Saturday August 18 while Madjid Bougherra will be up against his former team mates when Wednesday travel to Charlton a week later on Saturday August 25.

Turf Moor will be the place for a Boxing Day party while fellow Lancastrians Preston North End will be Wednesday's first opponents of 2008 on New Years Day at Hillsborough.

And the two derby matches with Barnsley will take place on Tuesday November 27 at Hillsborough and Saturday March 1 at Oakwell.

The final away match of the season will see Wednesday travel to Leicester City on Saturday April 26 while Norwich City will come to Hillsborough for the final match of the Championship season.

Not the start we were looking for, but if we can start like we finished off last season we should be ok.
