Owls Track Defensive Duo

Wednesday have today been linked with swoops for two highly-rated defenders in a bid to strengthen their squad before the end of the transfer window.

Highly-rated Fulham defender Zesh Rehman has been linked with a move to Hillsborough after Fulham boss Chris Coleman allowed the 22-year-old to leave on loan.

Rehman has made a total of 23 appearances for the Cottagers, after signing on from trainee. He was loaned out to Brighton in the 2003/2004 season where he made nine appearances for the club.

Southampton's Chris Baird has also been linked with a move north, to work under his former manager Paul Sturrock.

Baird's agent Gary Williams says the Owls are among a number of clubs chasing Baird's services - along with Leeds, Plymouth Argyle, and Middlesbrough.

The 23-year-old has only managed six games for the Saints in total, and his contract is due to expire at the end of the season. He's had successful loan spells with Walsall and Watford during his time at St Mary's.
