Who Are Yer? interviews Leeds United fan Andy this week in the build up to the big Yorkshire derby. We ask him about Ken Bates, Richard Cresswell, and catching the blades for the automatic spot!...
1. You lot are doing well at the moment, do you think you'll get automatic promotion, or are you settling for the play-offs?
I think we are in a strange position, it would take a miracle to catch your neighbours but we are well clear of 7th place so we should get a play-off place, just need to keep ticking over with some solid home results and the odd win away and we should be ok.
2. What do the Leeds fans think of Ken Bates?
I think the majority of them wouldn't have had a good word to say about him. I've been to Chelsea and witnessed him give us the V-sign and flick his cigar butts down on us while mouthing obscenties but to be honest beggars can't be choosers as they say and there's no doubt in my mind that without him there was a real possibility we could have gone under.
3. And what about Kevin Blackwell?
Difficult this one, he's done ok in the circumstances but I think he's a little bit tactically naive, especially with substitutions, which may prove costly if we get to the play-offs.
4. You signed former Wednesday player Richard Cresswell a while back, how's he settled in?
Not 'breaking any pots' as the saying goes but doing ok, think a string of consecutive appearances would help but may find that difficult with the likes of Healy, Hulse and Blake also vying for places!
5. Have you signed anyone in the transfer window, or are there any rumours?
Australian midfielder Joel Griffiths, no abslolutely nothing about him! Other than that pretty quiet. I don't think there'll be much movement in or out although KB might find it difficult to keep all the strikers happy!
6. Who are your danger men?
On current form Robbie Blake is playing exceptionally well, excellent close control and superb from free kicks. Hate to say it but our on loan signing from our friends across the pennines Liam Miller is also proving a good acquisition, touch of quality in midfield to support the 'industrious' Sean Derry. Wouldn't say he was a danger man as such but 'Killer' has improved no end at centre back, adds some solidity in defence. Also keep an eye on Eddie Lewis who has discovered some form which was lacking at the start of the season and he's proving quite a tricky customer.
7. If you could take one player from Wednesday to Leeds who would it be and why?
Not really sure, do you have a decent left back because Harding and Crainey are hopeless!
8. If you could offload one player from Leeds to Wednesday who would it be and why?
Any one, preferably both, of the above !!!
9. What is your most memorable Leeds Vs Wednesday match?
Predictable I suppose but it has to be the 6-1 victory on 12th January 1992, atmosphere was amazing such a swashbuckling performance broadcast live to the nation on our way to pipping the Mancs to the title.
10. How do you think Wednesday will do this season?
Well you have to be realistic, staying up must be your first priority and then building for a play-off spot next season although I do think squad strengthening will be essential to achieve that goal.
11. Finally, what do you think the score will be?
Ok I suppose I'm lining myself up here but I'm going for 2-0 Leeds, just think our goal scoring options will be your downfall.
Enjoy the day.
Cheers Andy, and I'd say Good Luck for Saturday, but I really don't mean it! I'm sure ALL Wednesdayites wish you the best of luck in catching our not so famous neighbours though, so good luck with that!
