'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Aussie Aussie Aussie!

...oi oi oi! Sorry about that...anyway, Brian Laws has admitted his interest in Sydney FC's Australian international David Carney.

The rumour mill has been well and truly in full swing over the last few weeks with Laws away on holiday, but the Owls gaffer is now starting to shape up his new squad ahead of the 2007-08 campaign.

And Australian international David Carney is on his shopping list - with Laws insisting he could look in to a move for the player when pre-season training begins.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'I think he can play in the Championship, no problem. He has a fantastic left foot, is prepared to take people on and has an eye for goal. Nothing will happen yet but might when pre-season is underway.'

The midfielder has been getting good reviews on his home soil for impressive appearances for Sydney FC - but has struggled to make a name for himself in England with spells at Halifax Town and Oldham Athletic after coming through the Everton youth system.

But Carney's performances for his home town club attracted interest from Europe with Steaua Bucharest and German club Munchengladbach both giving the 23-year-old trials only for the midfielder to turn them both down because of the language barrier.

But there should be no such problems (hmm, or maybe there will?) should Wednesday put in an offer for Carney this summer. We'll keep you updated...
