Whelan Bags New Owls Deal

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is already in discussions with Chris Brunt over a new deal at Hillsborough and he's hoping to tie Glenn Whelan down to a new deal too.

The Irish youngster enjoyed a superb season for the Owls last season and was rewarded for his efforts by bagging the player of the year award.

And Laws is looking to further reward the midfielder by sitting down and discussing terms for a new contract at S6 as he looks to keep key players at Hillsborough next season as well as bring new ones in.

The Dublin midfielder will kick off his third campaign in the blue and white next season and has come on leaps and bouncds since Chris Turner brought him to the club from Manchester City in the summer of 2004.

The 23-year-old has made 111 league starts for the club, netting ten goals - including an impressive eight last season.

Most improved player last season, some outstanding performances and even better goals. Worth an improved contract without a shadow of a doubt

Amazing to think Whelan could've gone 12 months ago!
