Sharp Opts For Blades Move

Wednesday's bid to sign long-term target Billy Sharp looks set to end today with the Scunthorpe hitman set to move to to the red and white half of the city today.

The Owls were part of a bunch of clubs including Norwich City and Wolves to sign League One's top scorer last term - but Sharp looks set to rejoin the Blades for £2m - just years after leaving Bramall Lane for £100,000.

'We're just waiting to finalise everything,' Blades chairman Terry Robinson told BBC Radio Sheffield.

'There's a possibility that a couple of players could be going the other way as part of the deal.'

Sharp arrived in Sheffield for talks with Owls boss Brian Laws - who took Sharp to Scunthorpe from United - earlier this week but it's common knowledge that the striker always wanted a return to play for the club he supported as a boy.

It now looks like Laws will have to turn his attentions elsewhere to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season after letting last season's joint top scorer Steve Maclean leave the club to join Cardiff City.

Southampton have already issued a 'hands-off' warning over the availability of hitman Kenwyne Jones, and Laws has six weeks to add more names to his squad.
