Two More - And That's It...

Two More - And That's It...

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed that he's looking to bring in just two more players to bolster his squad before the start of the 2007-08 campaign, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.

Laws has already brought in Lee Grant, Rob Burch and Richard Hinds this week but has revealed there will be just two more additions to the squad before the start of the season.

Steve Watson has been earmarked for a deal in S6 next term after impressing at Hillsborough on a loan spell last season. He's currently down the pecking order with Baggies boss Tony Mowbray at the Hawthorns and could make the switch to South Yorkshire sooner rather than later.

And the arrival of another striker in the blue and white stripes will complete the summer dealings - although as we've already seen thus far in the closed season, it's easier said than done.

The spending so far in the summer has already left some fans underwhelmed, despite the promise of the club pushing the boat out for a promotion push next season, and the news that Laws is looking at adding just two more players to his squad has been met with mixed reactions on the Vital Sheffield Wednesday forums.

topgunowl said: 'I'm a bit gutted, wanted maybe one more player-possibly a left back or another solid centre back/central midfielder.

'I would be more than happy with Watson but don't know if just by signing him and another striker will mean we have a playoff squad? If the squad progress like they did last season then maybe but if some players don't improve consistency then I'm not too confident.'

SkeggyOwl said: 'I would be happy if that was the case Topgun. Watson did a solid job for us last season and another striker is most definately what we need.'

Sure we've released more players than we've signed.... Remember us struggling with injuries during last season - is this to be repeated, especially with our new look smaller squad?

Well, maybe. But there's a lot to be said for a stable line-up (so says me, a Col U fan who enjoyed that last season when play-offs beckoned) I think he's got it right!

Downsizing? Not a word I'd tend to associate with the Owls!

I think we'll have a similar sized squad as last season. The only real problems we had last season under Laws was the goalkeeper situation but hopefully that's sorted.

What happened to the £2.5M Bougherra money? What happened to the money Allen had lined up for a promotion push at this stage? Burch, Hinds, Grant, Watson - all free transfers and not exactly promotion quality. Wednesday haven't spent a penny while our Championship rivals have been busy. A few injuries and next season will be nothing more than another relegation fight.
