Hinds: A Scunny View

Hinds: A Scunny View

Wednesday fans seem to know little about the batch of players coming to S6 this summer - so we here at Vital Sheffield Wednesday contacted a Scunthorpe fan to get in the know about Richard Hinds!

--------------------------------------------

1. We've just signed Richard Hinds from you, can you give us a brief summary of him?

Richard Hinds is a very versatile player. He come play comfortably at CB, RB and CM, whatever position he plays he does a steady job without really excelling. He was a key player for us in the 2005/2006 season and the first half of the 2006/2007 season.

2. I take it he was a key figure with Laws, but not so much with Adkins?

Laws was a big fan of Hinds. When Adkins took over we went on a very good run and Hinds found it difficult to get into the team, Laws was playing him at RB when he was in charge last season but Adkins seemed to prefer Byrne so Hinds found himself on the side lines for most of the second half of the season.

3. What are his strengths?

His physical presence, he is very tall and likes to get stuck in and he is very good in the air. I would say he is a no nonsense type of player.

4. And his weaknesses?

Some times he is low on confidence especially if he's in and out of the team. He doesn't have much pace which has caught him out a few times.

5. We've heard he's a utility player - but what's his best position?

Personally I preferred him at centre back, he hasn't had many bad games for us playing centre back, although arguably his best spell at the club was at the start of the 2005/2006 season when he played week in week out in centre midfield. He was excellent and chipped in with a few goals.

6. Were you sad to see him leave?

Not all Scunny fans are sad to see him leave but I am. He is a good player to have in the squad because he is so versatile.

7. How do you think he'll do for us?

I`m not 100% sure he will be able to cut it in the Championship. He was a very good League 2 player, a decent League 1 player but I feel the Championship may be a step to far for him. I can't see him being a Sheffield Wednesday regular first team player next season, although I hope I am completely wrong and he has a good season.

--------------------------------------------

Cheers mate, and good luck for next season...
