Owls Chairman Snubs Bates

Wednesday chairman Dave Allen has refused to sit in the director's box at Leeds United at the weekend, and insists he will sit with the 3,500 strong travelling army of wednesdayites instead.

Allen had a public disagreement with current Leeds chairman Ken Bates when the former Chelsea chairman tried to takeover the club two years ago. Bates has not banned Allen from the director's box, but has decided to sit with the Owls fans instead.

It's well known that Bates runs the club from his home in Monaco, but often comes over to the club to look over the day-to-day running of things. He declined to come to Hillsborough for the reverse fixture last September, but has opened his doors to the wednesday directors.

Allen told the Yorkshire Post yesterday: ''I have no desire to sit anywhere near that bloke (Bates). I shall be sitting with the fans.''

The move is an interesting one from Allen, who has faced opposition to his running of the club from some wednesday fans.
