Laws To Europe, And Beyond!

Not content with looking to bolster his squad on home shores, Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he's going to step up his search by looking in Europe for a new striker.

Laws spent a number of weeks chasing the services of Billy Sharp, before the Scunthorpe striker opted for a move to boyhood heroes Sheffield United, while Laws' other target Kenwyne Jones looks like he's staying put at Southampton after George Burley slapped a 'not for sale' tag on him.

And now he's prepared to broaden his horizons in order to get the right man in for the job.

'We've been looking globally and been looking at one or two, as I say we've missed out, and that's not just on Billy, we've missed out on other players as well,' Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield.

'When you're looking for a player, in particular strikers, everybody's looking at them. Those that are spending money are looking at the same ones we are.

'So we're always under pressure and constant threat from other teams. We're not gonna burn our bridges and put everything in one basket, we've got to be very careful. When was the last time the club spent that kind of money?'

Wednesday have already been linked with a move for former Everton and Oldham winger David Carney who's currently plying his trade in the Australian league with Sydney FC, and the scouting on foreign soil is set to continue over the next few weeks as Wednesday look to add a goalscorer to their squad ahead of the 2007-08 campaign.
