National First For Owls

National First For Owls

It's not very often that we're at the forefront of new ideas on or off the pitch - but there will be a national first for Wednesday as they improve their Middlewood Road training ground.

The club will be the first in the country to install the latest FIFA approved third generation astroturf pitch as part of the two-part plan to improve the indoor training facilities at Middlewood Road.

The famous indoor dome at S6, which has been seen by passers-by on Middlewood Road for years, was damaged beyond repair during severe weather back in January and the club are set to install a new-improved dome complete with the 3G pitch.

And Academy Director Ashley Carson is delighted that the club will be welcoming new training facilities which are also being used by Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus.

'I am delighted for the Board to have approved funding for the new facilities, including an enhanced dome. We will also be the first club in the UK to have the new 3G Astroturf, currently being used by Juventus and Inter Milan in Italy,' Carson told the official SWFC website.

'When we were looking to place the order for these new facilities consideration had to be given to the fact that we may relocate our training ground in the future. If we do that the dome and playing surface can be transferred so this is a long-term investment.'

And the club will also be able to re-locate the new facilities should the club secure a new training ground in their long-running battle to sale the current Middlewood Road facilities.

The new dome and 3G astroturf pitch at the training ground is set for completion by the end of August for the first team, and also the academy, to use the facilities.

Yeah, I've played on it at a five-a-side pitch in Sheffield too, pretty smart. Also surprised no other club has it...

Oh great !! We have the best practive pitch in the country, and what have we bought to play on it so far ? 2 unwanted keepers and somebody from S ****horpe. I can see the Premiership giants quaking in the boots on their basic practice pitches.

Don't be so negative haxey! This could mean the beginning of something big. Why spend the money on the training ground if we're going to sell it? Takeover imminent anyone? :D

Negative or Realistic ? If we put it to the vote on here if we would rather have state of the art plastic pitch or big name players, I think I would know what would win.

I am going to be nagative again, but does anyone believe there is a takeover in pipeline ? After all the false dawns over last few years, I think and chances washed away with the flood. At end of last season I was so positive after the run we had, but now I see all the players we should be buying, going to the pigs and Wolves, and all we pick up are freebies who are not good enough to get a game elswhere

I hear what you are saying haxeyowl and agree with your last statement, but at the moment we are trying to looking for some bright news, one small step at a time.

I agree Nightowl. Godd news is great, but am i the only one on here who has the passion and drive to think we deserve better as fans ? We fill away grounds up and down the country, have better support than most of other teams in our division, and every summer we just pick up the leftovers from other teams, why can't we be linkled with Junihio like Hull, or Robbie Fowler like Cardiff ?
