Cresswell Owls' £2m Man?

Former Wednesday striker and current Leeds hitman Richard Cresswell could be the £2m man Brian Laws is looking to bring to Hillsborough according media reports today.

The Yorkshire Post is today reporting that the Yorkshire-born striker is set for a £2 million move to Hillsborough within the next week as Leeds look to cash in on their players to rebuild for a promotion push back to the Championship.

And Wednesday boss Laws has already confirmed that he has tabled a bid for a striker, rumoured to be around the £2 million mark, and is awaiting a response from the club in question.

'A space has been left open on the tour, in case we get the go-ahead to bring in another player. We are very close.' Laws told the Sheffield Star.

And he told the official Owls website: 'We are still currently waiting on an offer that is on the table. It has not been rejected and I have positive vibes about the move but we are not rushing in to anything.'

Cresswell spent just over a year at Hillsborough after the Owls shelled out £950,000 for his services from York City in March 1999 but he made just seven starts in the blue and white shirt, netting two goals before being sold to Leicester City 15 months later.

He enjoyed a successful spell at Preston NE after, notching up 159 starts for the Deepdale club, scoring 46 times before securing a £1m-plus deal to Elland Road in 2005.

He enjoyed a good first season at Elland Road but injuries in recent months have restricted the forward to just 30 starts in his Leeds career, and boss Dennis Wise could be keen to cash in on him so he can bring his own players in to the troubled club.

PLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEEE be lazy paper talk, this would be such a bad signing.
Rabid Owl
waste of money imo hes not even worth half of that

If this is true, it will be an absolute waste of £2M. He is no better than anyone we already have. He has no pace and is injury prone.
Smurf
Who would have thought that in the 80's when Erasure wrote ship of fools it could be about Wednesday. We sold him for cheap when he was in his prime, and now he is past 30, and constantly injured we are going to buy him back for £2million Bloody Idiots

I find this a bit confusing, with each move his price goes up yet his performance goes down !!!!!!!! , agree with others better value for money is still out there.

Some basic maths for you all. Richard Cresswell will be £2million, plus his wages which be about £10,000 a week, so he will cost us £2.5 million to have for next season. Robbie Fowler is free, but probably wants £30,000 - £40,000 a week, so he will cost us less than £2million for next season. Need I say more ?

Has Fowler got a canoe?

Oh, storagematt, you're a shining wit, and probably two weeks late with that joke. Cresswell, yes, 2 million, no.
Auckland Owl
heard rumours that john hartson could be on his way to S6, if true wouldnt be a bad thing as he is big, strong, good in the air and has a good record for the championship, not really given a chance by wba last season.
will it ever happen

Set aside 500k to pay Fowler for a couple of years and then spend the remainder on someone else! Laws has obviously been told he can't break the wage ceiling therefore we'll end up with some crud failure. Laws tells us we'll be "excited" about his 2 million man - I'm willing to eat my words but not too hopeful.

By the way, McClean is already scoring goals for fun for Cardiff in friendlies. "If I start games I will score goals," said McClean. I'm still bewildered at the fact they let him go, he's the only natural finisher we've had since Hirst.
