Wednesday continued their pre-season tour of Holland with a 2-2 draw against Heerenveen - but could see Deon Burton suspended for the start of the new season.
Wednesday took the lead early on when Kenny Lunt was dragged down inside the box for a penalty and Chris Brunt stepped up in the absence of Steve Maclean to power the ball by the Heerenveen goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Both sides had their fair share of chances to get the second with Marcus Tudgay and Deon Burton having the pick of the chances for the Owls while former Wednesday player Gerald Sibon almost came close to levelling for the hosts.
But the turning point in the game came just before the break as Deon Burton commented on the referee's decision to award a free-kick against a Wade Small challenge on the Heerenveen goalkeeper.
The official asked Burton to come towards him but the Owls hitman stood his ground and was shown a red card to reduce Wednesday to ten men.
Still, Heerenveen took the 'friendly' spirit in to account and returned for the second half with just ten men themselves to make the game a more even contest in the second half.
The second half started in subdued manner but Wade Small soon continued his excellent recovery in Holland with his second goal in as many starts from a Frank Simek cross to double the Owls' advantage.
But the hosts weren't prepared to lay down and they grabbed two goals in the final 14 minutes to give them a share of the spoils thanks to a brace from Lasse Nilsson.
Wednesday: Grant; Simek (McAllister 69), Bullen, Hinds (O'Brien 69), Gilbert (Wood 61); Small (Clarke 61), Whelan (Watson 61), Lunt, Brunt (Spurr 75); Burton, Tudgay.
