'If It's Football, It's Vital'

D-Day For Wednesday

Wednesday fans will be holding their breath today ahead of the Owls' press conference at 2pm - where it's expected Paul Gregg will take the reigns at Hillsborough.

Owls Chairman Dave Allen revealed the club were in talks with the leisure millionaire about a possible takeover of the club before the start of the season and media reports are saying Gregg could takeover as soon as this afternoon.

A statement on the Owls' official site said on Wednesday: 'Sheffield Wednesday have called a press conference for Friday afternoon at Hillsborough with regard to the club's takeover.'

Gregg isn't the only interested party in investing in the Owls, with Irish billionaire Sean Quinn also being rumoured to fancy the chance to take the Owls' reigns, but the former Everton director is hot favourite to take the hot seat this afternoon.

The press conference comes fresh on the back of fans group Wednesdayite's plea for the club to keep the fans informed of what's going on with regards to the takeover - and it looks as though those pleas will be taken in to account this afternoon.

Keep tuned in to Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest news on the Owls takeover!

Been a long time coming - let's hope that it's good news!

hurph, hurph, here, here, and amen to that Jambo.

I'll be honest, I'm doubtful that it'll be good news. Dunno whether all these years as a Wednesday fan has made me cynical but its been a long long time since we've had REALLY good news... Time will tell...

Are we all praying a bit too much again I hope not

Come on allen, pack ya bags and get out of our club, ur not and never have been a wednesday fan, and u dnt know what we want! Let a fresh face and fresh money come and how u how its done! so bye bye mr allen
Luby02
Mr Allen - never been a Wednesday fan !?! .... and of course Paul Gregg is a regular on the Kop.... A new owner, that has previous connections with a team that play in Blue, and a few Quid in the bank might be much better than the devil we know (who seems to have the club, slowly, heading in the right direction) .... but on the other hand aren't these the credentials of a certain Mr Bates (who was greeted with open arms by many !!!)
DB2002
Mr Bates was never greeted with open arms by me! but nether was Mr Allen.
Nightowl
Wasn't greeted with open Arms by me either ... and while the Chelsea Fan has royally screwed things up in Leeds ( ...maybe Bates is a Wednesdayite after all ???) we have stabilised our finances, established some genuine (if limited) assets and consolidated our position in the Championship. It is easy to be lured by the Evertonians cash and a belief that the grass will always be more green ...... then again .......
DB2002
Surprise surprise....no take over.......

why keep us waiting all week to say no deal in place so dissapointing get those fans to sell up
fozzyp
If it was an attempt to make us the biggest laughing stock in Sheffield it has certainly worked. What next ? A press conference to say they are using Tetly tea bags instead of PG.
duds
Why does Mr Allen insist in making our club look like a joke? Do you think he gets some wierd kick from it?!? I tell you what I'd like to KICK him. He's making it easier for fans to walk away from the club with his silly games and lack of ambition. What ever next?
Owlsmad
I think tetly tea bags would be worth a pre conferences I heard they only use morrions own down at the lane
