Owls Confident On Trio

Wednesday chief executiive Kaven Walker has revealed that he's confident the Owls' key trio of Chris Brunt, Frank Simek and Glenn Whelan will all pen new deals at Hillsborough.

All three enjoyed a superb 2006-07 campaign with the Owls, arguably the best in their career so far, and have attracted the interested of a number of Premiership clubs recently according to media reports.

And Wednesday are attempting to tie the trio to new deals as soon as possible to avoid losing them for nothing later down the line - and missing out on their aid for a promotion push this time around.

'This is not an issue of money, it is an issue of league status,' Walker told the Yorkshire Post.

'We have made Chris an extremely lucrative offer. Glenn is more than happy to stay if we can come to some agreement. We sat down with Frank and went through a deal and I am sure that offer would meet his expectations.

'I am reasonably confident that all three players will stay.

'We are doing everything we can, bearing in mind we have to do it within our financial restraints, to keep these three players at the football club. We stand a better chance of being in the Premier League with them than without them.'

Brunt has been linked with a number of clubs including Fulham and Wigan while American international Simek was rumoured to be heading to Merseyside with Everton and rumours from Ireland insisted Whelan had already rejected a number of offers of a new deal with the Owls.

But the signatures of all three could prove to be the biggest signings of the summer for the club, and somewhat make up for the underwhelming signatures coming in to S6 thus far.

I hope all 3 sign extended contracts. However, we dont need telling that it "isnt a question of money" because it always boils down to that. However, the question of league staus is important. If the 3 have ambitions of the premiership and its status and money,then us not sighning anyone of any significance isnt going to fill them with confidence about the clubs ambitions or our ability to attract high profile players. But alas, we are back to money, and as Mr Walker admits, we have to work within our budget. Unfortunately that means that we will only attract donkeys and has beens, and that wont inspire our better players to hang around too long. Again, god hope im wrong.

We need all 3 if we r to do well nxt year but I still av mi doubts and I fink one of the three wil be gone by start of season!
