Brunt Talks Collapse

Wednesday winger Chris Brunt could be on his way out of Hillsborough sooner rather than later after the club revealed discussions over a new deal have ended.

Brunt is one of a number of Owls stars with their contract up at the end of next season and Owls boss Brian Laws had revealed he is keen to pen the Northern Ireland international to a new deal at Hillsborough.

But after trying to negotiate a new deal with the winger, Wednesday have announced that they've ceased negotiations after what they describe to be 'excessive wage demands' from the youngster.

The news will come as a bitter blow to Wednesday fans after hearing right-back Frank Simek has penned a new three-year deal at Hillsborough.

And it could also mean Wednesday will try and cash in on the Belfast-born winger this season to avoid losing him for nothing next summer - with Brunt possibly leaving before the start of the season.

Brunt enjoyed a superb season for the Owls last season, and attracted the interest of a number of Premiership clubs along the way, with Fulham, West Ham and Wigan all showing an interest in the midfielder.

And now the trio could well move in to snap Brunt up on the cheap before the start of the season.

So it looks like we're losing our best player for a promotion push next season, I cannot wait
Just cannot believe it, can it get any worse?
will it ever happen
What next lets release glen whealan jj and burton on a free and gift them to the blunts
wot a laughing stock we are becoming
jimbob owl
absolute ******** jok wednesday!
i know i just sent 1 in but im so fuming its unbelievable! allen u need 2 get ur finger out of ur arse and walle out of ur pocket and offer brunt and whelan the offer that they have asked 4! and with rasiak not coming u need 2 do everything u can 2 keep our best player, but u nt give a ***** bwt the owls! *****in joke! SACK THE BOARD SAKC THE BOARD
gutted, sack the board, season in tatters already!!!!!!! OWL25
The board are the joke, and is the blunts who are having a laugh at our expense. we need to rid our self's of this clueless board.
just give him the money!!!
will it ever happen
if we cant afford wat he wants then sell the greedy bugger before he goes for less than hes worth in january or even free next season
what an absolute joke. For example If he wanted 20k a week that would have cost us 1million a year but if he scores ten goals and aides the big promotion push then does it really matter, No ambition.
hes had some high profile press in last 3 months, can u blame him
jimbob owl
pay him what hes worth ,i agree with tommyg
jimbob owl
what was he sayin he wants to get in the prem with wednesday and he can help us just pay it him allen is a tight faced old git that would not pay a penny in to da club to save himself oh it payed for pitch recovories oh he must thing he dun enough he is scaled out na a bit o dosh in one pocket and a bit more in the other
up the owls 2k7
Exactly brunty wants to stay and play with wednesday, unlike a certain mr bougherra who really was just in it for the money.
What a rollercoaster! more downs than ups. Its seems we get 3 bits of bad news for every 1 bit of good news. If the play on the field is good, that should raise eyebrows for potential investors. So invest in the squad...wonder if steve watsons come in with a high wage and brunty wants the same?
if brunt wanted to play for wednesday he wud agree a deal, im sure we will hav offered him more than he was on b4...
he obviously cares more about money than swfc so may as well sell him now rather than let him go for nothing!! jj n small would be just as good on the wings and his money would buy someone else!! nice to see frankie commiting though!!!
Its not about Brunt caring more about money than our club. What cant people understand. Its a short career, he wants to play on the big stage, we want to keep "within budget" at all costs. We havnt signed a striker, what we will get will be someone who can play in 10 positions, What we have heard in the past couple of weeks about who they might be going for has all been bul*****. If they could afford the fee, they could never match wages. Brunt can see us going knowhere, the same with Whelan, and me for that matter. Maybe Brunt was waiting for a change at the top, that hasnt happened, and basically its not going too in the short term.
got to get Allen out now, before anyone else goes!!! predicted this months ago, whelan next?
thewalkleyone - agree with every word. Why seemingly 99.999999% of fans (ie all except me and you??) cannot grasp that players are simply employees and the good old days when teams were made up of local lads who loved the club are GONE. The guy feels undervalued and therefore wants a substantial payrise, he's been told he can't have one, so now he wants to leave. Happens in companies up and down the land every single day of the year. To turn on the guy would just be farcical!
Good things that have happened this pre-season: Frankie signing Steve Watson for free (Maybe) Bad things: Brunt leaving. Whelan probably leaving Maclean gone for nothing No 'promised' investment Total split of Wednesday fans No Billy Sharp No Kenwyne Jones No Rasiak No Kluivert (Did we ever actually believe this) No Number 9 at all. I have never known a pre-season with such little hope. Even when we were relegated, there was still an air of optomism about the season after. There is just none now and all that will happen is a couple of bad results will lead to the fans getting on the players' backs.
Disgruntled Owl
He can't leave for nothing, Wednesday have offered him a new contract and he is under 24.
But I agree, another total lack of ambition. Small is scoring goals, use him as a backup striker, get someone in on loan, then use the 2 million to secure Brunt and Whelan. I don't begrudge Brunt saying no - the board offered him exactly the same contract he was on, no pay rise whatsoever for the great season he had - total ******** clueless morons.
This is why McClean left - he played the least football yet finished joint top scorer and the board wouldn't even give him 50 a week extra. It's a Mickey Mouse operation.
What on earth do they spend the season ticket money on? Average ST price is 450 and they sell around 14,000 a season - that equals 6.3 million quid. Where the ***** does this money go?
I leave work in 10 minutes, 1st stop Hillsborough, need to take My Kids, Dads & my photos, so I can collect the season tickets. just under a grand of my hard earnt. Plus 150 for the car park. 2 weeks before kick off, the whole thing is imploding. Had my money since early June, along with many more. Its a disgrace and thats a fact.
You can understand Brunts ambition. I still dont think hes that good player he is a flash in the pan ! But he can obviously see the club has no ambition and that we havent signed anyone with quality and we arnet going to get promotionso I dont blame him. But Wednesday have obviously offered him agood offer which he has turned down . Laws says its the biggest offer since we dropped out the premiership yet he wont sign for us to me that is being a little bit greedy so if he dunt want to play for us then he can **** off cos he aint that gud anyway and we cud use his money to get a good quality striker in !
They will leave, its that simple, the chairman and the ridiculous comments made by senior wednesday personnell have all but lost all my confidence in the club, just how bloody juvenille are they, when a prospective investor came to wednesday, why didn't they hold a share holders meeting to discuss any offers made, I refuse to believe our share holders would have not sold up for the better of the club, Mr allen believes he is the only one who has put any money into the club, what about the fans that struggle to fork out for a ticket week in week out I have done it for years and I'm not a shareholder but I have put money into the club even when I couldnt afford to, I'm sure there are officials from the club that regularly read these web sites and want to know the feeling of the fans, Mr Allen thankyou for spending 250000 on David graham but grow up, you have gone about your business in a totally unproffessional manner
I bought a season ticket ages ago. Would happily get a refund now if someone offered me one.
Disgruntled Owl
Can't say where i heard it from but ! Brunt is happy with the cash on offer, it's other matters at the club he's not happy about. Wonder what that could be ?
