Reading Eye £1.2m Whelan Bid

Reading Eye £1.2m Whelan Bid

As if the news couldn't get much worse for Wednesday fans, another key player could well be on his way out of S6 with Reading rumoured to be preparing a bid for Glenn Whelan.

BBC Radio Berkshire are reporting that Royals boss Steve Coppell has shown a keen interest in the young Irishman and is set to offer Wednesday £1.2m for his services as a replacement for midfielder Steve Sidwell who completed a move to Chelsea this summer.

Reports from Ireland have already insisted that the former Manchester City youngster has already turned down two new contract offers to stay at Hillsborough and is keen for a move to pastures new.

And he could well be moving to the Premiership sooner than expected with the Madjeski Stadium club, should Wednesday accept their imminent offer for the midfielder.

The news will be another big blow to Wednesday fans following the news that contract talks with another star player, Chris Brunt, have broken down today.

Whelan was put on the transfer list at the start of the season by former boss Paul Sturrock but bounced back in style to enjoy arguably his best season in professional football and bag the Owls' player of the season award for the 2006-07 campaign.

Allen wouldnt care if 99% of supporters were chanting for his head. Its stuck up his arse. They would still be the 'minority'. He's a cheap ******** who's out of his depth. Bitten far more off than he can chew. Good busnessman, most probably, but hasnt got deep enough pockets. He's done as much as he can, and for that we are grateful, but its time he and the other lightweights moved on. That also includes the people at Wednesdatite, lets hope that the shareholders Association get it together so Allen isnt the lead player anymore. On Whelan, had his best season by a country mile, and won me round. 1.2 Million is a joke, but I can see them taking it. So with 3 for Brunt, 2 in the coffers already? + 1.2 for Whelan, we could afford a decent striker and his wages. Who 'decent' would want to come here. Absolute shambles. Its going to be a long hard one chaps, batton down the hatches.

Luby why dont you keep your mouth shut. Protesting is not what we need at the start of a new season it just unsettles evryone including the players and it doesnt achieve anything ! It is idiots like you who give the club a bad name !It is clear to see that Whelan is not going to sign unless he gets on offers from other clubs! Ih he was going to sign he would have done by know. All he is doing is waiting for a bid from a club and he will be on his bike.
