Reading Eye £1.2m Whelan Bid
As if the news couldn't get much worse for Wednesday fans, another key player could well be on his way out of S6 with Reading rumoured to be preparing a bid for Glenn Whelan.
BBC Radio Berkshire are reporting that Royals boss Steve Coppell has shown a keen interest in the young Irishman and is set to offer Wednesday £1.2m for his services as a replacement for midfielder Steve Sidwell who completed a move to Chelsea this summer.
Reports from Ireland have already insisted that the former Manchester City youngster has already turned down two new contract offers to stay at Hillsborough and is keen for a move to pastures new.
And he could well be moving to the Premiership sooner than expected with the Madjeski Stadium club, should Wednesday accept their imminent offer for the midfielder.
The news will be another big blow to Wednesday fans following the news that contract talks with another star player, Chris Brunt, have broken down today.
Whelan was put on the transfer list at the start of the season by former boss Paul Sturrock but bounced back in style to enjoy arguably his best season in professional football and bag the Owls' player of the season award for the 2006-07 campaign.
