Brunty Missing For Trio

Wednesday winger Chris Brunt is set to sit on the sidelines with a suspension for the first three matches of the season after his sending off in Holland.

The Northern Irish international, who is out of contract at the end of next season, was sent off during the Owls' pre-season trip of Holland in the clash with Groningen.

And the Owls were today informed by the Football Association that the tricky winger will be suspended for the clash with Rotherham United in the Carling Cup, the first home match of the season against Wolves, and the trip to London to face Charlton Athletic.

The news will put the icing on the top of a very bad pre-season cake for Owls boss Brian Laws, who has seen his side struggle on home soil during the pre-season, and could also see Deon Burton suspended for also getting sent off in Holland.

Wednesday are hopeful that Burton's red card will be withdrawn by the FA, but will have to wait a little while yet with the referee's report arriving at the FA in Dutch.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Whats the point in having pre-season friendlies if you pay the penalty for over zelous refereeing?

We are not having much luck so far pre-season. How many mirrors did we break in the floods. But at least things can only get better !
