Owls Open Striker Talks

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed to BBC Radio Sheffield that the Owls have been allowed permission to open talks with a Premiership striker.

Laws has made a new number nine at Hillsborough his main priority for the close season but has failed to bring a number of his targets to S6, including Billy Sharp, Grzegorz Rasiak, Patrick Kluivert and Kenwyne Jones.

But the Owls boss is now hopeful of getting the nod from a mystery Premiership striker - who Laws wouldn't comment on - to make his squad complete for the start of the new season next Saturday.

The Owls supremo has already travelled abroad this week to see a Champions League striker in action, while Nantes striker Dennis Oliech was set to arrive in S6 with a trial according the player's agent.

Laws has reportedly put aside 2 million to spend on his hitman, and will be hoping discussions go well to enable the new man to arrive at Middlewood Road ahead of the Owls' opening day clash at Ipswich Town next Saturday.

We really need some good news. Wonder if it's a loan? Please God don't let it be Dickov.

You've got to hand it the man- he really does seem to be going for it. I like Laws. I think he's proving to be a great servant for this club.

it could be a man city striker to make way for all their new players. vassel or dickov would be good. just heard on 5-Live that leeds could start next season on -15 points!!

all the players mentioned here would not score 20 goals for us next season, vassells finishing isnt good enough, you saw that with the chances he missed against us in the cup. dickov simpley isnt good enough, jeffers was only good enough 4 years ago, andy cole is past it, pedersen is a chuffin left back for bolton, its not promising

I think there's some good possibilities there. I think some of the strikers named above might not have been fantastic in the premiership but could gets lots for us. I think Vassell would be fantastic.

It is all about confidence and Vassell is short of it at the moment. I can see him getting it back though once he starts scoring again, and if he does take the small drop down to the CHampionship I can see him being a big success.

I agree about vassell and could make himself a real fans favourite, lets be honest his pace ripped us to shreds last year, and had he been a bit more confident he could have scored 5 against us, I have no doubts he could be a real star for us, but and I hope I'm wrong they can't afford him I dont reckon any player is earning over 10,000 a week at wednesday and he must be on at least 40 or more at man city

Yeah, I can't imagine we'll actually be seeing Vassell at Wednesday. More likely Cole or Dickov, neither of which I'm thrilled by.

Wednesday have not signed a "name" player for the best part of 10 years. It won't be Cole or Vassell, it will be someone you've barely heard off and they'll end up saying no anyway. Laws will end up having to bring in some League One tosh just as a token gesture.

Cameron Jerome anyone? What about Geoffrey Horsfield as the People are saying, could do a job at Championship level. Andy Cole would be a horror show, no commitment no work ethic, no cheers

Geoff Horsfield is a terrifying prospect. I'd rather have Leon Clarke up front.
