Weaver Returns To City

Nicky Weaver will return to Manchester City this week after completing his 14-match loan spell at Hillsborough.

The Sheffield-born 'keeper was initially brought in as cover for David Lucas for a month, but agreed to stay longer after the news that Lucas had not fully recovered from his knee injury.

The Owls number one is now ready to play in the next match against Luton Town on Tuesday 31st February, and manager Paul Sturrock thought it pointless Weaver stayed for the full week.

He told the SWFC site: ''Nicky's going back. He would be training here without playing a game so he's just as well going back and playing in his own environment.''

Weaver had a rollercoaster ride during his 14 match stay at Hillsborough, but helped the club climb out of the relegation zone.

His lowest point came in the away match with Watford where his clanger gifted the Hornets their opening goal.

However he more than made up for his errors in the relegation six pointer against Leicester two weeks ago, where he made a world-class save in the dying minutes to give the Owls all three points.

Sturrock continued: ''I would like to thank Nicky for his contribution while at the club and wish him well.''
