One In, One Out?

There's less than a week to go until the start of the new season and the rumour mill is still in overdrive with the Owls being linked with a Geordie and Chris Brunt linked with the Baggies.

The Geordie in question is young Newcastle striker Andy Carroll, who will be finding his starts for his boyhood team limited next season with Owen, Martins, Luque, Ameobi and new signing Alan Smith all battling for a starting spot in the United attack.

The Owls boss is said to be closing in on Blackburn hitman Francis Jeffers for a fee believed to be around £700,000, but Laws could make a double swoop to bolster his attacking options with a reported £2m left to spend on players.

The 18-year-old is a hot prospect up in the North East despite making just a handful of appearances for the Geordies and Owls fans will be hoping he follows in the mould of Billy Sharp - who Laws took from Sheffield United before making him in to the League One top scorer with Scunthorpe.

But the rumours continue to surround Chris Brunt's future at the club with Championship rivals West Brom reportedly interested in the Northern Irish international.

Wednesday ended talks with the tricky winger almost two weeks ago due to wage demands, and the news has alerted a number of interested parties, although the Owls are keen to hold on to their star man for the forthcoming campaign, and hope a new deal can be negotiated.

wud nt the reported 400k bid for the ardvaak,be better used to offerr a beta wage deal,700k for jeffers cud be a bargain
papaowl
why would brunt go to another championship club when we hasn't signed a new contract because he wants to play for a premiership club, think what must be lazy rumours
wednesday4europe
Don't see Brunt going to West Brom. How does the compensation work? If Brunt leaves next year do we get what he's worth or just a nominal fee?
Disgruntled Owl
if Brubt does leave it will be for a Prem club not another champ.
will it ever happen
3m? Apparently Southampton have just turned down 5m from Derby for Kenwyne Jones saying they've undervalued him. If Kenwyne Jones is a 5m+ striker then Brunt is a 5m+ winger surely.
Disgruntled Owl
Just heard, Burton's ban will be on reserve games only, small bit of good news for a change! Though i think he's injured now!!!! I would be happy enough with 700K for jeffers, and spend the rest on Whelan and Brunt's wages.
owl1
They're never going to spend transfer cash on wages. It'll collapse the wage structure at the club. If Brunt got paid well over the top rate for any player at Wednesday then every other player would want a wage increase too. It'd be chaos.
Disgruntled Owl
and if the bank knew we were forkin out more on players then they would want to know why we wouldn't be payin off more of the debt we owe, the wage structure won't be broken, allen won't pay out any transfer fee, so I reckon we are definately lookin at a loan player, what a flamin shambles!
Holl
lets just sign dejan Stefanovic back, hes lost the captaincy and redknap wants him gone...... bring back the glory years!
mansfieldowl
What a heartbreaking pre-season, how can Laws seriously think we are in with a chance of promotion. We had a great run last season with Turner, Mclean, they are now gone and we have Grant and Hinds instead, with Whelan and Brunt, our 2 best players wanting out. Also does anyone think Laws comments about Kluivert were a small bit disrespectful, I know he hasn't been great for a few years but he does have almost 50goals for Holland. I think comments like "bringing the boy down" for a trial probably *****ed him off!
owl1
Kluivert would have been to us what Taribo West was for Plymouth. No way he would have fitted in. Jeffers would be ok. Horse***** is crap. Andy Carrol is the most exciting mentioned thus far, I reckon. Now Stefanovic...oh yes, what a man. Bring him in asap. And Kenwyne Jones being worth more than £5 million is a joke
HootingMad
LONG HARD SEASON AHEAD, A WEEK TO GO AND A HARD OPENING OF FIXTURES, TIME TO GET BEHIND THE PLAYERS, AND STOP BOOIN L.CLARKE.....
OWL25
I'd love Stefanovic back. That'd be great. I'd rather have no-one than Horsfield.
