Burton Escapes Ban

Wednesday striker Deon Burton has escaped missing the Owls' first two games of the season for his pre-season sending-off in Holland.

The former Portsmouth and Derby hitman was one of two Wednesday players to see red in the pre-season tour of Holland, along with Chris Brunt, and was expected to receive a ban once the Football Association received the report from the match.

But the FA have now cleared Burton to play in the Owls' senior matches, but have forced him to sit out two reserve fixtures against Darlington and Lincoln City as a result of seeing red.

But despite the good news for the Owls' hitman, Burton could well face a race against time to be fit for Wednesday's opener at Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Burton missed the Owls' clash with Birmingham City at Hillsborough on Saturday through injury but Owls boss Brian Laws is still hopeful the hitman will be fit and ready for the season opener at Portman Road.
