Baggies Make Brunt Bid

Championship rivals West Brom have made a bid for Wednesday winger Chris Brunt according to Sky Sports.

Brunt's future at Hillsborough has been under the spotlight in recent weeks after contract negotiations with the Northern Irish international broke down, with the winger out of contract at the end of next season.

But although Wednesday have insisted the Middlesbrough youth product will remain at the club to help them on the pitch next season, a big-money offer for the winger could see him exit the Hillsborough doors sooner rather than later.

Fulham, West Ham, Wigan and Manchester City have all shown interested in Brunt, with the youngster destined for a move to the Premiership thanks to a superb season domestically with the Owls and internationally with his country.

West Brom have already lost a number of key players from last season, including tricky midfielder Jason Koumas, and could see Brunt as the ideal replacement following his superb performances in the two victories over Tony Mowbray's men last term.

why would he leave for another championship team i dont see the point

It is a bit odd, but if it's a big money offer, Wednesday can't really afford to turn it down.

ID TAKE 2MIL N ELLINGTON THE OTHER WAY! GOT SMALL N JOHNSON FOR WINGS!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
True but we've ONLY got Small and Johnson for wings. If they get injured then it's Tudgay back on the wing. If Brunt goes then he's making it clear it's just about money because he could sign a 4 year deal and West Brom not get promoted - their team is looking shaky following so many departures.

Ellington does interest me.......If a deal for brunt leaving can be struck it'd be 3m region. I believe we have the right manager to take us forward but our squad seems very thin. We are desperate for an experienced centerback, an exciting left winger (if brunt goes), and a pacey goal grabbing striker.......The 3 players I would like is Dejan Stefanovic, Wayne Routledge and the selfish striker who would get goals ........Francis Jeffers!!!
Bigash
It would have to be at least £3M now with future bonuses and a sell on fee. Other wise they can Foxtrot Oscar.
Smurf
I like brunt and no doubt he is an excellent player, when hes good hes very good, but a good 40% of the matches i saw last season he was anonymous at best. if he wants out cash in on him and bring in Dejan, jeffers and a decent creative midfielder (not sure who tho!!!!)
mansfieldowl
Although i would hate to see him leave it now looks imposible any contract will ever be sorted out for brunty so if someones willing to give a lump sum plus bonuses and maybe even another player then that is going to be very hard for swfc to turn down.Elington would be a good addition to the squad and with small finding his form god forbid things might actaully be getting better at hillsborough.
tommyg
I think our problem is not cash coming in. After all, we've apparently got 2m to spend on a striker but we can't afford the wages of a 2m striker. Brunt is probably still on league 1 wages so if he goes we might have 3m but we won't have any wages to pay the player!!
Disgruntled Owl
dont get me wrong i want him to stay but everyone has their price! n if he's gonna leave next summer for next to nothing n we could bring in cover before end of aug
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
wages will always be a prob........but if brunt goes who wud replace him
papaowl
What message does it send to the rest of the players and the fans if Brunt is allowed to leave? With a hole already in the striker department and the club's unwillingness to restructure the wage policy to buy anyone decent, selling Brunt will almost ensure a poor start and an uphill struggle for the rest of the season.

"Future's Blue N White" sounds like a Wednesday PR agent. He never disagrees with club policy whatever it may be. If Wednesday announced they were merging with the pigs, he'd probably talk it up. You should check his IP address, it probably tracks back to Dave Allen's office at Hillsborough.
onedeaddj
Go and look at who the other clubs in the Championship have signed and then compare that with Wednesday. Bottom 6 is the likelier probability than top 6 and anyone who realistically judges it can see that.

some one is in a mood today onedeaddj. now is the time to get behind the players and club!
mansfieldowl
onedeaddj: there once was a time when people actually cared n argued with what you say on here (myself included). i merely support the club i love! you however, contually slag off the club you alledgedly support! i fully understand you are entitled to your opinion as am i! i simply support the club how i see fit and will be doing so all season starting at ipswich on saturday!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
I will support the hell out of Wed. this season but sadly we are not getting back to the Prem. until we get investment, and with the way the shares are distributed this is not going to happen any time soon. But we need to be smart about the young players we let go, look at the money S.hampton have got for players like Bale and Crouch, and now potentially Jones, we cant let our best players go for nothing, if we got 2-3mill then I'm happy. But we cant make similar mistakes with good young talent like Lekaj and Beevers, developing them up and then they go for a nominal fee, tie them to longer contracts or something.
owl1
Why do we need investment? we don't have to do things at break neck speed. i'd rather do it properly, and not on the back of some sugar daddy who doesn't even know what the owls are abot (Mr Yeoung/Gregg!). Like it or not if we keep picking up players like bougherra and brunt for next to nothing and selling them at 2-3mil profit after some good performances for the club, we will be able to strengthen the finances and the squad as we go and hopefully we will be able to buy better players and sell them for higher fees. UTO bring on Saturday
wednesday4europe
I used to hate the idea of foreign investment, especially after seeing how easily chelsea dominated after abramovich arrived, but the truth is that we need it. Nowadays almost every promoted team from the championship has had investement. We cant keep kidding ourselves that a strong spirit and hard work will get us there

A step backwards for him
will it ever happen
