Jeffers Signs!

Wednesday have at last completed the signing of a new striker after months in the market, with former Everton hitman Francis Jeffers signing a three-year deal at Hillsborough.

The former Arsenal, Rangers and England international player will go straight in to the squad that travels to Ipswich Town for the Owls' opening game of the season on Saturday after moving for an undisclosed fee.

'I am delighted to have secured a player of Francis Jeffers' calibre here at Hillsborough,' Owls boss Brian Laws told the official SWFC website.

'Francis has spent most of his career in the Premier League because of the quality that he possesses and I believe he can be a regular scorer with us in the Championship.

'We have been looking to secure a top quality striker over the summer and we certainly have that now, going into the new season, which is a really big boost for Sheffield Wednesday.'

Jeffers has already shown his qualities at this level after starting seven games on loan at Ipswich at the end of last season, netting four goals, and has also had spells at Charlton and Rangers after coming through the Everton youth ranks.

Jeffers was tipped to be the 'next Michael Owen' when he burst on to the scene for the Toffees but has failed to live up to expectations, including just four appearances after an 8 million move to Arsenal in 2001.

what a waste this lad was, never mind eh? he might flourish with your side.
excellent!!! all we need now is a centre back and we will be a force to be reckoned with. its not everyday you sign a england international, and at the age of 26 hes not even in his prime. goals galore!!!!!!
Welcome Franny, i'm hopeful he rediscovers his talent for the owls
That's what I like to hear, some positive news! Get in!
Think this is going to make or break Laws at Wednesday. I think he'll either score 20 goals this season or none. I'm quite optimistic though.

prem here we cum..........wat a steal............n i have every faith in the law that jeffers will florish at S6
excellent signing well done lawsy
Laws has around 1.3 million left - he should try and get a centre back or a creative midfielder in before the Wolves home game. He should also get a loan signing in as backup. If this is the end of our spending then it's no better than mid-table but if Laws is allowed to push the boat out a little, we may have a chance at sneaking in the play-offs.
Happy with that! bring back stefanovic and it'll be interesting! Couple of guys released by prem teams like Radzinski, Pistone, M. Christie, they may be worth a look?
about time we got somebody!
will it ever happen
Is Claus Jensen still available? Or someone like Danny Murphy on loan?
danny murphy be interesting......i no spurs r lookion to offload afew players........i heard addiks was after re signin murphy
The no. 13 shirt is free for you Murphy! What an awesome signing that would be......
I heard the pigs were sniffing around Murphy, and Hull City!!!?

Great news, Laws is a great manager! I think the spending is over though, the 1.3 will be used towards jeffers wages, securing Brunt and Whelan and lastly maybe 500k for jan tran window.
We're not going to secure Brunt or Whelan. Transfer money will not be used for wages.

Not my 1st choice for a striker, But now he has got a blue and white shirt on he gets my full support. Good luck Franny hope you stay injury free and bang them in.
He Was Never Any Good, Probably Score On Hid Debut And That Will Be It!
horseworrier CHECK THIS ONE OUT!!
Arsene Wegner was willing to spend 8mill on him, and he is one of the best judges of young talent around, so there is definitely something about him. If he can get his confidence up, then maybe he could turn out to be a top class acquisition.
United top followed by Wednesday???? Not wanting to be negative, but clearly have no idea about football.

did anyone see the guy who is head of skybet, he said in his view we are his favourites to go up as champions, lol if anything its nice not to be tipped to struggle at the bottom, lets forget the pre - season and get behind the lads COME ON YOU OWLS!
Its time to believe. We have a great manager and a chairman WHO LOOKS AFTER THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE CLUB. Whether you haters like it or not! We have been stung with signing big name players in the past. Likes of Hichcliffe 3m, De Bilde 3m, Di Canio 4.5m, Donnelly 3m?, O'Donnell 2m?, Sibon 2m, have all cost our club dearly. We are able to make a push.....and look on the bright side we didnt pay 8m for jeffers! 700k a bargain!
The ipswich game make my previous comments look comical
moyles linked to brunt....3m n i cant see us turning it dahn........can u??
