'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hughes Confident On Jeffers

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has insisted Owls new-boy Francis Jeffers will be a great success at Hillsborough after the 'fox in the box' signed a three-year deal with Wednesday today.

Jeffers has struggled to settle in to a regular first team role with a number of clubs including Rovers, Arsenal and Charlton after his breakthrough in the Premiership with Everton - but Hughes is confident a regular stint with the Owls will see his true quality come through.

'I feel Franny needs to go somewhere else to start playing football again,' Hughes told the official Blackburn website.

'You could never really predict how it was going to go. He was unlucky in fairness to him, he had a little spell when he was getting near to a place and then he got injured.

'Obviously then Matt Derbyshire came to the fore and he found it very difficult once Jason Roberts came back into consideration.

'So for his own career he needed to move on, he hasn't really had a settled run in a side for maybe two or three seasons.

'I'm sure he'll be a great success playing week-in week-out, because he's a quality player.'

Jeffers joined the Ewood Park club last season from Charlton Athletic but failed to secure a first team spot under Hughes, netting just one goal in 15 appearances for the club after falling down the pecking order to Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts.
