Friio Deal Dead?

Paul Sturrock's bid to bring Nottingham Forest midfielder David Friio to Hillsborough appears to be hanging in the balance today.

Reports from the Vital Forest website are saying that the former-Plymouth Argyle man will be a Wednesday player by the end of the week.

The only sticking point at the moment is the finances at the Wednesday end, despite a fee believed to be below £100,000 for the experienced midfielder.

Owls Chairman Dave Allen refused to fund any more transfers after an on-going row with fans group 'Wednesdayite'. The group refused to hand over their 10% shareholding in the club in exchange for £333,000 which would be put in to the club's transfer kitty.

Wednesdayite members voted 88.9% against selling their shares to the Owls chairman, which has resulted in Mr Allen refusing to help with anymore transfer money.

He said: 'The door is slammed, and I'm not going to put any more money in while this lot are hanging around the outside, wanting to cause trouble.'

The bust-up could prove costly for the Owls, who are desperate for new players in a bid to avoid relegation back to League One. The deal is now dependant on the help of Mr Allen's fellow directors, but is still expected to go ahead before the end of the week.
