Palace Eye Owls Target

Crystal Palace are tracking the progress of Southampton striker and long-term Owls target Leon Best.

Paul Sturrock admitted Best is a target for the Owls, and chairman Dave Allen said he would fund the transfer for the highly-rated Saints youngster himself.

But Allen has made it public knowledge that he will not fund any more transfers until fans group 'Wednesdayite' allow him to buy back their 10% share in the club - throwing the deal in to uncertainty.

Sturrock also secured the permanent signings of Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay earlier this month, and is also expecting to see Steven Maclean and Drew Talbot back in contention for a starting place in the coming weeks.

Best started twice for the Owls at the start of the season, scoring once against Hull City before injury foced an early return to St Mary's.
