Brunt Opens Baggies Talks

Brunt Opens Baggies Talks

Wednesday fans could be dealt another crushing kick in the teeth today with the news that star player Chris Brunt has opened talks about a move to rivals West Brom today.

The Baggies have made an offer which matches the Owls' valuation of the Northern Irish international and Brunt could be set for a move to Tony Mowbray's men before the end of the week.

'West Bromich Albion have matched our valuation for Chris Brunt,' SWFC chief executive Kaven Walker told the official SWFC website.

'We have always said that if we receive a bid for a player which matches our valuation we will allow them to speak to the respective club. Therefore we have given Chris permission to speak to West Brom.'

The left winger attracted a huge amount of interest from Premiership clubs West Ham, Manchester City and Fulham after his fine form for Wednesday last season, while Everton were also rumoured to be mounting a £3m offer.

And his future was thrown in to further doubt weeks ago when contract talks with the former Middlesbrough player broke down due to wage demands.

Wednesday fans have already voiced their concerns at the team following the crushing 4-1 opening day defeat to Ipswich Town at the weekend and the sale of Brunt is likely to open up more cause for complaint.

surely the powers that be have a duty, if this deal happens, to pump money into the club for team building. we are being stripped of our assets and replacing them with substandard rubbish (stand up Hinds and Grant). It shows a remarkable lack of ambition, and i for one am sick of seeing my beloved club rotting to nothing. sack the board, sack wednesdayite before the fans sack the club

Kaven Walker said Wednesday was "not a selling club" a few weeks back. You can still hear the interview at the BBC radio Sheffield website. Now they are about to sell our best player to one of our main rivals. Walker is a liar and should be kicked out of the club for deceiving the fans, most of whom shelled out £400 or more for season tickets in the belief that Wednesday were preparing to launch a play-off challenge. Walker out, Allen out.

It's a huge mistake - even if Laws gets all the 3 million, other clubs will inflate their player's prices and we'll be forced to buy dross. Which quality players are going to want to come to a club that sells their stars at the first whiff of a few quid?

Here's what Walker said today. "Chris made it crystal clear to us that he does not want to be at Sheffield Wednesday." I don't blame him - the club is run by incompetent sel-obsessed morons with no ambition and Brunt was offered peanuts. "The manager won't get all of the money that we receive for Brunt, but he will be able to spend some of it and we're currently in talks with a couple of midfielders." Translation - Laws will get no more than a million to spend on two dross replacements.

I'd take 3Million for Brunt. Yes, he was amazing last season but you can't convince a player to stay if he doesn't want to. Plus we all know there are two Chris Brunts that walk (not run) on the pitch. Everybody thought we'd struggle without Bougherra, didn't we lose one out of 13 without him? We'd struggle without MacLean....didn't he miss a penatly then an open net at the weekend ? "Mansfieldowl" - Don't you think it's abit early to be criticising Grant & Hinds ??

The club have no other choice than to accept a good bid due to the contract situation. Brunts an idiot if he decides to go, and a liar. It's a bit s**t for the fans but Brunt has made it clear he doesn't want to play for Sheff Wed and IMO he hasn't got the stomach for a sustained promotion fight at a small club. there's a lot of players in this division that think they're better than they are and if they choose to find out the hard way, so be it

I think Im speaking for many Owls fans when I say I will be sorry to see Brunt go. However what with contract talks coming to an end, we are faced with the dilema of losing him at the end of this season for far less than hes probebly worth. On top of that I know Brunt released a statement saying that he is happy to play for owls and give 100% even though we arnt willing to offer a new contract. However I strongly believe that this would have had a negative effect on his performance and believe that we wouldnt have seen the same Chris Brunt this season as we did last. I think that the sensible thing is to take the money now and hope to god that Allen allows more money to fund wages, that is my biggest concern.

eeuse, they are probably very competant players, but you dont win promotion with competant. if we sell brunt laws will probably get 500k if that, where does that leave us? it leaves us with players who cant get into teams we are allegedly competing for promotion with. why are they signing our best players and we are signing their dead wood? hinds wasnt even in the Scunthorpe team as an ever present last season!!
