Whelan Next For The Off?

Whelan Next For The Off?

With Chris Brunt expected to depart Hillsborough for West Brom in the next 24 hours, more bad news could follow for Owls fans with Glenn Whelan linked with a move away.

We here at Vital Sheffield Wednesday have heard that the Republic of Ireland under-21 international could well be set for move to Championship rivals Stoke City before the close of the transfer window at the end of this month.

The midfielder, like Brunt, is out of contract at the end of the current season and is yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal that would seal his future at S6.

And Wednesday could well cash in on the former Manchester City youngster, with Stoke City showing interest, and Premiership club Reading also being linked with his signature.

But Wednesday chief executive Kaven Walker has told Radio Sheffield that the club are yet to receive any offers for Whelan, and is hopeful he will sign a new contract at Hillsborough following his impressive form in the blue and white last season.

Maybe if he goes to Reading, we could swap him for Bobby Convey ?

Not much chance of that i think... that would mean we'd have to actually pay a player some wages!!

C'mon - we should be honored that massive heavyweights like Stoke City are showing an interest in signing our players. Besides, "Wednesday are not a selling club" - Kaven Walker (ACTUAL QUOTE).

Why didn't Kaven Walker say "wednesday are a dead club" it would have at least been the truth

I know pre-season was a bit of a damp squib, and the first match was a shocker, and now one of our best players is leaving and a second looking like he's going to follow, but calling us dead is a bit harsh haxey!

It'l be harder losing whelan than brunt. Losing both would leave us as relegation canditates. Say we get 5m for the pair, realistically we'd get 1.5m towards new players. Why is Brian Laws sheffield wednesday manager?, because he can work with a restricted budget. Unlike our neighbours who pay 4m for a 29yr old with little resale value.

I feel sorry for Laws, having to sell or get rid of our best players, he must be thinking why the hell he took this job! He would have been far better off staying with S ****horpe!
