Brunt Completes Baggies Switch

Wednesday winger Chris Brunt has ended speculation over his future by agreeing a 3m switch to Championship rivals West Bromich Albion today.

The Northern Irish international has been heavily linked with a move away from S6 after the superb season he enjoyed last term, and the collapse of recent contract talks have alerted a number of clubs.

Everton were rumoured to be set to make Brunt's Premiership dream a reality with a 3m swoop for the midfielder but Baggies boss Tony Mowbray has moved fast to replace Diomansy Kamara and Jason Koumas who both left the club over the summer.

Mowbray told the official WBA website: 'Chris is a player whose ambitions match our own.

'He wants to play at the top level and we're delighted he's chosen our club as a vehicle to hopefully take him there. Chris has undoubted, proven quality at this level and brings a cultured left foot to the squad.

'He will hopefully supply plenty of ammunition for our strikers and chip in with a few goals himself.

'He's a welcome addition to the squad and will add competition for places in ann area where we feel we already have a lot of quality.'

Former Owls boss Chris Turner brought the Northern Irishman to Hillsborough from the Middlesbrough youth set-up but the winger far from impressed the Owls faithful with Jekyll and Hyde form in the blue and white stripes.

But he blossomed last season following Brian Laws' appointment at Hillsborough, and attracted the interest of a number of clubs including Manchester City, West Ham and Everton.

Owls boss Laws is now set to sit down and look for a replacemennt for Brunt, with only Burton O'Brien the only other left-sided player at the club.

We don't need players like Brunt who clearly want away. Better off without him. Unlikely to gain promotion with the baggies either. 3M is good for the laziest player in the squad! As for BOB. Jesus! About as good as Lunt. Rubbish. Danny Murphy and a decent centre back please Mr Laws

Great bit of buisiness Brian. Better off without Brunt if he doesnt want to be at the club then to let him go for 3mill is a great result for me. With Contract talks falling through he wouldnt have been half the player he was last season. What makes me really angry about the whole brunt issue was the lies that seem to have come out of hillsborough, mainley that Brunt wouldnt sign a new contract because of wages and desire to go to a PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB !!!!!!! . So why oh why does he sign for another CHAMPIONSHIP rival. Just doesnt make any sense the goings on round S6 at moment. Where has all the wage money gone ? I mean was it 7 out 5 in !! and even with a reduction in playing personel a statement made on owls website that wages were too high, that was pre Jeffers. All this leaves me very frustrated and confused.

glad he's gone now it's turned out like this. he lied to the club and he lied to us, he didn't want to hold out on his contract to see if we could get to the prem he held out on his contract because he wanted more money, west brom are crap. hugely talented player but i'm afraidhe's going to fall into the dyer, bowyer, bellamy trap and never achieve anything

Someone involved with the club has to come out and stop talking ********* to the fans. We deserve a bit of honesty, not to be treated like ignorant morons. Don't tell us that we are aiming for promotion this season and then sell Brunt, let Maclean go and bring in substandard replacements. It's a load of *****. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a replacement in. Given how much effort it was to find a striker, I bet we get no one in in time then get some 17 year old loan player from the premiership whose never actually played a game in his life. The board are a load of lying ****s and they need to start treating fans like humans and stop lying, or get out.

Just read on the website, we're looking to loan a left midfielder. I hate it when I'm right. Then, when January rolls around, suddenly, the money to replace Brunt will have vanished. Funny how that happens.

If we are gonna spend some of the Brunt/McLean cash we could do with some experience in the side, players like murphy and stefanovic would be ideal, if you look back through the years at promoted championship clubs they usually have a couple of experienced guys who pull the strings, i.e. Merson at Pompey, McCall at Bradford, Dickov at Man City

I think its good business.....and when you look at the sales of Talbot, Bougherra and Brunt. You have to say good business to all sales. The lies are bad, but i think the aim of promotion has changed. As any club would like year on year doesnt look possible this year. Its about time we got some decent cash in, as a club we are now paying for the overspending of Di Canio and injury prone Andy Hinchcliffe. We have a great manager and if he survives this year.......will bring the good times back to hillsbrough.

can't see brian lastin. \he'll either not get the results and be sacked by xmas, or get so *****ed off with allen and walk. the board must go now. no one has any confidence in them, even the players.

Inclined to agree with you Jambo. A few bad results and Allen will do his usual, but there's a good chance that repeatedly seeing your best players being sold will make you look elsewhere.

Now Laws is saying that we "haven't got the funds to compete with the top end" (of the division). The crux of this whole farce is that the board hoodwinked fans into buying season tickets based on the notion that we were going to be challenging for the play-offs, and as soon as everyone shelled out their 400+, they immediately changed their rhetoric and shifted the emphasis for the whole season. In other words - they lied to us.
