Owls Bid For Defender

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has revealed he's keen to strengthen the defence following last week's mauling against Ipswich - and has put a bid in for a mystery defender.

The Owls gaffer was left fuming at the comedy defending which saw Wednesday get off to a disastrous start at Portman Road last Saturday and is aiming to add a new name to the back four before the close of the transfer window.

'In defence, we're looking to strengthen that area... we've made an offer for a player. We're trying to make the squad as strong as we possibly can,' he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

'Maybe the reality has hit us against Ipswich, that we need to be a bit stronger.'

Laws dropped club captain and centre-back Lee Bullen from the Owls' victory over Rotherham United in the Carling Cup last week and also brought youngster Tommy Spurr back in to the side at the expense of Peter Gilbert.

And although Steve Watson and Richard Hinds can both play at the back, Laws is hopeful over adding a new defender to his ranks in light of the recent form in the Owls back line.

Well we certainly need strengthening at the back, so lets hope this comes off soon

I hope you have more luck than us. We've been waiting seven years to sign a centre back. And we're still waiting...

stefanovic??
Norman
Anyone with a bit of pace will do, then play watson in midfield with Whelan and the new guy and Woody at the back.

It is another lie? You never know, im confused. Ive heard Kaven Walker saying we'l get 2 midfielders before August 31st, using Watson at back. Now wer getting a defender. Arsenal have got alot of defenders, how about Justin Hoyte on loan for a season?????
Bigash
Whelan will also be frustrating the board as they dont want to lose a player of his talent as they did with Maclean, on a free.

ITS THAT MUCH OF A MYSTERY THEY DON'T KNOW WHO IT IS AT HILSBOROUGH THEM SELFS. COME ALLEN GIVE LAWS SOME MONEY OR YOU WILL BE TRYING TO SELL A LEAGUE 1 CLUB

I hear on the grapevine that we have bid for Mr Nobody again!
Smurf
I wonder what the source is for this? I wonder if he was planning to get a midfielder but has realised that Bullen really isn't up to the job so has changed his mind. We do really need strengthening at the back though.

riordan, good midfeilder and just as good upfront, £1m good buy, good replacement for brunt!!!!!
OWL25
believe it when he signs!
will it ever happen
As weve seen today, work ethic is there, we just need quality. Pleased to see the work rate of wade small, tommy spurr, deon burton, frank simek and even Leon Clarke. We lack quality........its simple. Jermaine Johnson needs to be pushed, so if we get a left winger in and wade small is waiting in the wings, competition is there. 2 names ive heard are Bobby Convey and Gary Teale, either would be welcome!!!!!!. I cant agree with how our board and manager handle the sales of quality players, Brunt and Bougherra....saying they wudnt play for us, is rubbish!! Coughlan and Folly casted out in the cold! Folly is 10 times better than Lunt! and as for cocko, wudnt every owls fan rather have him in the team than Bullen???
Bigash
get some signing in now lawsy
s66owl
According to Radio Sheffield, this is Sam Sodje from Reading. Also, Laws said we had a deal for a midfielder on Friday but he got injured so it's not going through now.
Disgruntled Owl
thats probably another lie aswell, they can jus say there were after a midfielder to make it look like they are actually after after sum1
