Owls Holmes In On Target

With the close of the transfer window just days away the Owls continue to be linked with a number of players to bolster the squad - this time it's Derby's Lee Holmes.

The winger has long been a target of former Owls boss Paul Sturrock at Swindon Town but reports from the Western Daily Press are claiming that Wednesday boss Brian Laws is ready to hijack the deal and bring the Ram to Hillsborough.

The Press reports Laws made an enquiry in to the winger on Tuesday and he could be prepared to offer the winger a lucratrive deal to bolster his attacking options following the sale of Chris Brunt to West Brom last week.

Holmes has already held talks with League One Swindon over a possible six-month loan deal with the club but a move to play in the Championship could prove too attractive to turn down.

The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Pride Park and has made 26 first team starts for Billy Davies' men, notching two goals along the way, and has enjoyed loan spells at Swindon and Bradford City in recent seasons.

Sounds and absolute cracker. Which Champions league qualifier did he play in? 26 starts 2 goals, wow Brian, that will fill the hole left by Brunt. NOT. Leave it Brian, dont panick buy if thats all you can come up with, give the younger players a chance, then re-evaluate in January. Buy a left back. We looked perfectly capable of scoring a hatfull of Sunday, but equally capable of conceeding a hatfull +1

yes lets hijack a swindon deal!!!! we must have him he is obviously quality if hes willing to drop 2 divisions!!!! quick brian get that cheque book out ive got a feeling this lads a winner...
mansfieldowl
Oh, has Sodje made his mind up yet? Cos if he's not coming we need a centre half. Tip for Brian, take Migel Pearson with you when you look for one, he might know what we are looking for. You came back with Hinds last time.
thewalkleyone
Well if he is willing to drop 2 division, he cannot be the greatest player in the world. So, like everyone else is saying why bother. Save the money and get the defence sorted out.
Smurf
We need a winger, because Small and Johnson aren't going to stay injury/suspension free. However, this guy does not sound like the one for us.

another proven quality player?!?!?!? save the cash , signing lower league players means we will be playing in the lower leagues simple as, I dont know why the hell we look at dross like this , sometimes I don't think laws has his mind on the quality we need in this league and concentrates on players who are ok in leagues 1 and 2, we havent got any money to spend so don't waste what little we do have on sub standard players, give the young kids a chance they can't be much worse than signing nobody's and at least I bet they will want to play for the club
Holl
He's not good enough Brian, move on son
johnnywalker69
he was mint when he was breaking thro' lost his way a bit tho, could be one for super bri to take under his wing, ala, sharp, keogh, maclean etc
wednesday4europe
another big name quality player!!
swfcjambo
if he's as good as the other lower league players weve developed like Jermaine Johnson and Wade Small, he'd be welcome by me.
Bigash
who exactly we expecting to sign here? ronaldinho? kaka? from the minimal amount i have seen, or read, of holmes he seems to be an exciting talent who has played for England U-20s. He's still only 20 so it is no surprise that he doesn't have too many games/goals under his belt. if we can get him on the cheap and comfortably within the wage structure i'd have a go, possibly on loan first. if we get him it'll give us 4 wingers on the books. hopefully sodje signs on then that'll leaves us just needing a left-back. hopefully, gilbert will do one and spurr will continue to develop.
HootingMad
Ive just seen this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Oliech - says awaiting work permit to move to owls
Bigash
Maybe he is the one they are dealing with. As Brian Laws says he's having trouble dealing with foriegn agents and needs clarity over the deal? I'd say its a strong possibility. You know we are the only club to get 30 plus comments per headline, Piggies get 1 at most, lol
Bigash
If he's only 20 then maybe there is potential but realistically, we need more than potential at the moment. A bit of experience and grit is needed to dig us out of our present hole. Pick him up cheap to boost the squad and develop talent - Yes. Buy him for a lot as a replacement for Brunt - No.
Disgruntled Owl
Jesus, going to agree with disgruntled. Whats going on?
thewalkleyone
him and jj on ur wings brings back memories of last season before the rot set in at valley parade!
Wellers
Bigash, unfortunately anyone can write stuff on wikipedia so it isnt too accurate, maybe it was laws
Norman
why not give him a go if hes cheap small is doing a good enough job at the minute any way so he dosnt have to play hes 20 for christ sake
