Owls Trial Bilbao Midfielder

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has taken Athletic Bilbao midfielder Igor Angulo on trial at Middlewood Road as he looks to bolster his squad following the departure of Chris Brunt.

The Owls have already been linked with a move for Derby winger Lee Holmes but official confirmation from the club has revealed the Spanish left-sided midfielder has been on trial at S6 this term.

Laws told the official SWFC website: 'Igor has come to train with us this week and has looked sharp so far, we will put him in some game situations to see how he gets on and take it from there.'

Angulo comes with a good background in Spanish football after representing Spain at under-21 level but is not thought to be in Bilbao's plans for the forthcoming Spanish season despite having a year to run on his current deal.

Laws is desperate to add fresh blood to his team after losing the first two league matches and is keen to add before the transfer deadline next week.

that sounds more promising, chances are it bull poo tho
Now now Mansfield, your worse than me. Lol
im not usually so cynical! ah the joys of supporting swfc
Hey there aint many clubs that give their fans as much entertainment off the field as on it lol :-) Carnt say that us owls fans are ever bored, not like our piggy rivals across town pmsl, Striker here striker there....ooohhhh lets buy another striker !!! yawnnnnnn!!!! he he. Anyway on a serious note, I no alot of people may disagree with this but it dont matter if its a player called Holmes from derby or Rasiak, what matters is that the player or players in question come to Hillsborough with a sole desire to play for the club with 100% commitment and in respect that same respect should be repaid back to that player game in game out. We gotta trust Laws judgement. UP THE OWLS !!!!
think we are all agreed on that, which is why I strongly believe that we should look at the younger players first, those already on the books
He is more likely to sign as he does not know what a "cretin" is, what "scum" means or just how venomous a "bitch" can be.
it'l be a gamble, but credit to Laws, he has got him in for a trial and not just seen a clip on youtube.
...and it is AngulO not AngulA
Is this the fella that they went to watch in Europe? Don't know anything about him. Could be good, could be bad. At least the pressure wouldn't be on him straight away (Like Jeffers) as we can play Small and Johnson for a while. Knowing our luck we'll agree a fee and then there'll be some wages issue (CoughSodjecough)

He might not speaka de lingo but im sure his agent knows how many euro's there are to the pound. The fans (members) actually own the club in Bilbao, now there's a novel idea. More useless trivia:- If your not from the Basque region, you have no chance of playing for them. There is a waiting list for season tickets. Real Sociadad in San Sabastian are there biggest rivals (Darko plays for them) Bilbao only stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season. They are in the process of building a new stadium (Next to the old one) right in the centre of the city. Bilbao is a steel town, as is the Basque region. However, their mills are still open and booming. A pint of Beer is anything from 3 to 5. Just trying to make the lad feel at home. Lol
Here is something else to make him feel at home...ETA!
how many tapas restaurants are there in Sheffield??? for the love of god sum1 find out!!!
One up crookes but its not that good. This certainly aint the player he looked at in Europe. Bilbao finished 4th bottom so couldnt have been in a CL qualifier.
Well we got the EBRA,or is everyone too old to remember them. Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay East Bank republican Army, where barmy. Wherever we go..... Finally lost it. New I had when I agreed with Disgruntled
sounds interesting, primera league to the championship lets hope its not more bull****.
just watched him on youtube, he looks quite handy on the left side and can put the ball in the net, only 23 yrs old played for cannes in france, could this be a player with pedigree coming to us? probably not but we can always dream
dre ee ee ee eam, dream dream dreeeam. wot a beautiful singing voice
ha ha! singing along walking along walking in angulo wonderland!
Holl Think this is what you're talking about. He does look good but I'm not convinced by the opposition in these clips. Some quality defending in the first clip. Even worse than us!
Disgruntled Owl
at the end of the day he might actually be a player who wants to come to us...maybe in the basque region they dont know how crap we are at present. Who knows maybe we can have Borats brother on trial, Kazak International. But seriously he looks good on youtube, and who knows..where did SWFC watch Kenny Lunt to think him a decent player? Mind you you can look at crap signings bought after watching them..Sammy Todd, Fred McIver, Peter Feely and so on.
oh a follow on....can someone on this site please advise me just where you obtained the photo of BL. It is one that I took on the day he got the job, as a freelance photographer. [just in case there are any royalty payments due]
just been told that Igor Angulo has a pregnant girlfriend from Yorkshire and has agreed to move to england to keep her happy. Her father is an Owls fan and he told Angulo that the club are chasing promotion/ have a big stadium/ good manager, etc. Angulo met her through a celebrity friend on Emmerdale
Norman, hope thats not bull. Sounds quite promising if its true. However, the girl must be dim, cos I work in Bilbao a few times a year. Sheffield/Bilbao - Bilbao/Sheffield, tough call. However, there are some striking resemblences of the Sheffield area, with the Peak District, hills and green fields. Much the same there, but 20 degrees warmer (In winter) Although I did get stuck on a moterway for 3 hours in March because of the snow. Home from home. 1959owl - I spent a week trying to pull Fred McIver's daughter in Falaraki a couple of years ago. She was so impressed that I remembered him, although I am sure that we spent most of the time talking about the drinking habits of Fred and his mate Tommy Tynan. Sure Willie Henderson came into the equasion as well.
Funny how we remember those times so fondly. On a playing level they were probably the bleakest time in the clubs history. How time softens things up.
ha ha funny i just hope he dunt watch emmadale
sorry lads, I was so *****ed off with hearing rumours of kluivert and friends coming to hillsborough that I created this story whilst bored on my lunch hour. On a serious note- i hope we do sign Euell, Angulo & Sodje then watch us climb up the table.
when does the ETA branch of the Owls supporters club form? Maybe we can then get the season off with a bang!!
