Owls Target Sodje Brothers

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is hoping to make it a Sodje double before the transfer deadline after targeting Port Vale hitman Akpo Sodje to bolster his attacking options.

The Owls are already awaiting a decision from reading defender Sam Sodje after agreeing a fee and personal terms with the former Brentford centre-back at the start of last season.

And now Laws is hoping for some brotherly love to boost his squad after a poor start to the new season after having an offer of around 250,000 turned down for Sam's goalscoring brother, Akpo.

Vale are hoping to hold out for an improved offer from Wednesday while Laws is thought to be preparing a fresh raid for the 26-year-old after failing in a number of bids to bring new attacking options to Hillsborough.

Akpo bagged 16 goals for Vale last season and also picked up the club's player of the year award from adoring fans, depsite strike partner Leon Constantine bagging an impressive 26 goals last term.

And Vale could well be set to cash in on him sooner rather than later with the striker out of contract at Vale next summer.

The Owls are also reported to be chasing Ipswich and former Port Vale midfielder George O'Callaghan ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

Laws has made it clear he wants to strengthen his squad all over the pitch and Cork-born O'Callaghan could be the man he chooses to bolster his midfield options.

Just as I predicted, we would be forced into buying division 3 quality players because no one wants to come to Wednesday. Looks like a definite relegation dogfight this season. Now I'm glad the club's monumental incompetence prevented me from renewing a season ticket that I had had for 11 years. I predict a crowd of under 18,000 for the Bristol City match - let's hear what you think the gate will be and we'll see who gets closest.

interesting swoop puts that pace up front i suppose
fozzyp
21,000 we are a daft bunch, well still be there
smiggyswfc
george o'callahan and akpo sodje, and he expects us to fight for promotion with this. its a joke, why do we need a central midfielder? we need a winger a centre back and maybe a striker. our central midfield is good enough and not the major concern so strengthen what we need to, because if JJ or small get injured were buggered for the wings
smiggyswfc
Akpo hasn't madeanimpressive start to this season, and i'm amazed at the interest in him (apparently we've had interest from a Premiership club as well!). S ****horpe are reckoned to be in the hunt for his signature as well but I've got say I think he'll struggle in The Championship, he's not techniquely gifted but gives it everything.
paddockboy
burton has the technical side to him i think hes a good option for the bench sounds like were ready to sign four players our hungarian winger which is believed to be getting picked up from air port by an wednesday official, sam sodje which we just have an hold up with, his brother were we need to up our bid slightly and a centre mid. I think it all strengthens our team one way or another. The winger looks fantastic and is only 21 we all know the sodjes have that pace and power suited for certain games i.e stoke and i have no complaints on having another centre mid join us as long as he gives us options who we wanting to sign lads Ronaldo, Terry, Gerrard, and Owen
fozzyp
come on brian get realistic
s66owl
fozzy who is this winger your on about?
Holl
I'm not against this signing. I think it could take some of the pressure off Jeffers. Very concerned about the rumour that we're buying an Ipswich reserve misfielder. We have Whelan, Folly, Lunt, O'Brien, Watson and Hinds all of whom can play central midfield. I can't see the point. It was in the Sun though, so it's not exactly nailed on. I want to see us sign Sam Sodje, Igor Angula and a striker. I'd be happy with that. And assuming Whelan is still here next week, I want him given the Captaincy.
Disgruntled Owl
I think Akpo would do OK for you
herringthorpe
I agree disgruntled owl, I think the striker in question is Euell, who wouldnt be bad, he works his arse off - thats what u need in this division
Norman
Im f'in speachless
thewalkleyone
Wouldn't be against Euell coming in. I don't think we can afford his wages though. Laws has said that if signings are to be made this week, someone will have to go out on loan so wages are still tight. Any of Folly/McAllister/Beevers/Rocky would benefit from time in a league 1/2 team.

i cant even put any light on this shower!!! dear dear dear

n folly should be in first team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
Are people forgetting where Jermaine Johnson and Deon Burton came from???? Hungry players, eager to be given the chance.....Olws fans should realise where not going to sign players like Thierry Henry or even Carlton Cole, whiile we have debts like we do. The attendances we get each weak, keeps debt stable by paying the interest/wages. I know the finish we had last season, has attracted the likes of Watson and Jeffers, but our current status isnt helping
Bigash
Bigash. I agree with you. However, when the manager and KW openly say they have a bid of 2 million on the table for Sharp & Rasiak and talk about interesting the likes of Patrick Kluivert, they lift expectations beyond the bounds of common sense. The club have raised expectations with a string of lies all through the summer. There's been an excuse with every player they have 'gone' for. Even a mystery premier play got injured on the day he was coming on loan. And what about the jonney foreigner, whoever he may be, another pack of lies. Maybe the clubs management are in cloud cuckoo and believe the stuff themselves. The fans actually know where struggling, have no money and are going knowhere. Why spend any money on other clubs fringe 'hungry' players, when there are players of all ages, playing in various positions already on the books. Ify they are not hungry to impress god help us.
thewalkleyone
JJ n Deon had premiership experience wen we bought them! we can do better than akpo sodje and an ipswich reserve player! id rather us not sign anyone rather than panic buy! sam sodje is a good defender n would like to see him sign but not the ither two!!

HI GUYS..NEW TO THE SITE..I AM A SEASON TICKET HOLDER IN THE KOP AND GO TO EVERY AWAY GAME..AFTER WATCHING OUR BELOVED TEAM ON SATURDAY AT CHARLTON ,I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT IN NEARLY 30 YEARS OF WATCHING THE OWLS THE SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE WAS ONE OF THE MOST GUTLESS..SPINELESS DISPLAYS I HAVE EVER SEEN FROM ANY 11 PLAYERS WEARING THE SHIRT..AFTER TAUNTING MADJID WITH "MADJID MADJID WHATS THE SCORE" FOR MOST OF THE 1ST HALF WE THEN HAVE TO CRAWL AWAY FROM THE VALLEY IN EMBARRASSMENT!..I FEEL THAT THIS WEEK IN THE TRANSFER MARKET IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT WEEKS IN WEDNESDAYS RECENT HISTORY..IN MY OPINION WE SHOULD NOT BE WASTING WHAT LITTLE MONEY WE HAVE ON 3RD RATE STRIKERS..WE NEED AT LEAST 1 CENTER BACK..AT THE MOMENT RICHARD WOOD IS NOT HALF THE PLAYER HE WAS LAST SEASON SO HOPEFULLY SODJE WILL GIVE HIM IS CONFIDENCE BACK!..A LEFT BACK WHO CAN RUN FASTER THAN A 13 YEAROLD AS TOMMY SPUR IS NOT A LEFT BACK WITH ANY PACE AT ALL..HE IS A CENTER HALF WHO GETS DONE LIKE A KIPPER EVERY WEEK..AND A MIDFIELD GENERAL AS WE HAVE KNOW ONE TO PUT THE BOOT IN AND RALLY THE TROOPS..IF NOT THEN I FEEL WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO LEEDS AWAY AS THE BIGGEST GAME NEXT SEASON!
WORKSOP..OWL
Only if Leeds dont come up Worksop. However, agree with all you have said. Centre half, Left back & a midfield general. Although I still believe that a quality striker would help. Unfortunately,if they all came for free, we still couldnt pay the wages. So hopefully Sodje will come to play centre half, but given the names being linked now, he had better leave it at that, else he is in danger of replaceing crap with different crap.
thewalkleyone
I swear there is a culture of incompetence at Wednesday. After agreeing a fee and terms with Sodje nearly a week ago, they still haven't signed him as of Tuesday evening. It took me weeks of attempting to buy a season ticket before I eventually gave up. The whole club is staffed with lazy NO-getters, which is why we always get beaten by other clubs even for dross players like this. They seem to be completely incompetent in everything they do.
onedeaddj
Plus it seems that whenever they have a good idea that is successful, they immediately scrap it! Remember that half-time thing - kicking the ball in a goal from different distances. That was funny and entertaining - so they immediately got rid of it. Anyone got other examples - Great ideas that were successful but bizarrely canned?
onedeaddj
Multi-ball system. Tried for the first half of one game, worked well. Never seen again.
Disgruntled Owl
Glenn Whelan now linked with a move to Stoke City to replace Danny Higgingbotham who is set for Sunderland. It seems all our best players want to go. One wonders just what is going on in that dressing room!!!
CLIFFANDJ
Multi-ball system involved employing around 7 or 8 ball boys but we couldn't afford their wages - a can of coke and an ice pop - that's why it was scrapped.
onedeaddj
Sam Sodje sent off for Reading this evening - meaning even if we sign him he'll be banned for 3 matches. Can our luck get any worse?
onedeaddj
we still looked like a pub team in defence!..i am worried about sam sodje..why has he played for reading tonight in the carling cup if he is siqning for wednesday this week..surley he his now cup tied!..i dont think he his comming!..
WORKSOP..OWL
If Sodje was signing it would have happened yesterday or today. Once again, this is probably a result of total incompetence on behalf of the club.
onedeaddj
Banned for 3 matches.........? I think it was 2 yellows mate, its a 1 match ban.
Bigash
Yeah what about the wednesday band?? Created a great match atmosphere............The scrapped like a sack a ****.
