Ugly Week For Beautiful Game

Ugly Week For Beautiful Game

The Beautiful Game has been dealt a number of blows recently with the deaths of die-hard Everton fan Rhys Jones, young QPR prospect Ray Jones, and Spanish La Liga player Antonio Puerta.

Leicester City left-back Clive Clarke is also in hospital after collapsing at half-time during their Carling Cup clash with rivals Nottingham Forest last week - everyone's thoughts at Vital Sheffield Wednesday are with him, and the family and friends of Rhys Jones, Ray Jones, and Antonio Puerta.

We may sometimes think of Saturday's results as a matter of life or death, or even more than that, as a famous quote once led us to believe, but Vital Sheffield Wednesday member 'hellboy0628' gives us all a sense of perspective.

--------------------------------------------

In view of the recent tragedies that the football world has been dealt, some well publicised and some not, I think what most fans could do with is a heavy dose of perspective.

One of the tragedies of which I speak one is the little lad who supported Everton who was shot close to his home: I'm sure most of you will have seen the footage of his parents who are understandably distraught with what has happened to their boy. No parent should have to bury their child and I hope swift justice comes to the 'people' responsible.

Another tragedy is the death of the QPR winger Ray Jones who was killed in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday morning and that day's game was postponed in respect of the player's memory and to allow friends, colleagues and family to grieve.

The other not so well documented tragedy which has come to light recently is that our very own Yoann Folly has been dealing with the loss of not one but THREE family members. This is why he hasn't been seen in the side recently.

One death in the family is hard to take but losing three loved ones within one year is devastating: I know this as my new wife unfortunately lost her sister and both grandfathers within eight horrible months.

It shook her to the very core and has taken many years for her to come out of her shell; it's still something that haunts her on a daily basis from listening to certain songs on the radio which can reduce her to tears or on anniversaries and birthdays, or the fact that her sister at the very least should have been at our recent wedding was also a cause of much woe.

I count myself as being lucky because I've never lost anyone that I've been close to so I can only empathise with the people above but I don't truly understand the pain that the families will be feeling because I've never gone through it myself.

The reason that I bring this up is although everyone on here is passionate about Sheffield Wednesday or any other club, I being one of the main culprits, I think that we all should take a step back from the doom and gloom that we find at our respective club (mine being SWFC) and make sure we let the people who we care about know how much we think of them because you may never get the chance to tell them next time.

This may seem like a depressing article but the message that I'm trying to get across to everyone is that there are more important things in life than football (as hard as that is to admit) and we shouldn't get too down or let things get too heated at the goings on at Hillsborough or anywhere else when tragedies like the above can happen.

On behalf of everyone at Vital Sheffield Wednesday I would like to extend my condolences and sympathies to everyone who has been affected by these awful occurrences.

A well writen and extremely sobering article. Life is so very precious, don't waste time with anger and "what-ifs". Grab it by the neck and make the most of it and do something nice for someone - every day. That means today, tomorrow, next month, next year and in ten years time. We only get on echance and we are the lucky ones who can still make a difference, however small.

I understand another young player has collapsed and died today in Israel. 27 years old Chaswe Nsofwa. Your article is really well written - and makes you sit up and think
