Owls Sign Vitesse Winger

Wednesday have today completed the signing of 22-year-old Vitesse Arnhem winger Etienne Esajas for an undisclosed fee.

Owls boss Brian Laws has been desperate to bolster his attacking options, in particular on the wing, following the departure of Chris Brunt to West Brom two weeks ago.

The Dutch winger arrived at Hillsborough at the start of the week for a trial with the club and has put pen to paper on a three year deal at Hillsborough, and could be available for Saturday's visit of Bristol City.

And the 22-year-old insists he can't wait to start playing his football in front of the Wednesday faithful.

'I have been with Vitesse Arnhem for two seasons and my manager called me to ask if I wanted to go on trial to England,' he told the official Wednesday website.

'I thought 'why not' because it is Sheffield Wednesday, it's a big club and I think they should be in the Premier League.'

And Owls boss Laws is confident Esajas can be a crowd favourite at Hillsborough, following in the footsteps of Jermaine Johnson who has also lit up the Owls wing since arriving from Bradford.

'I am delighted to be able to bring a player of quality from Vitesse Arnhem in Holland,' Laws told the official Owls website.

'Etienne Esajas is quick and moves the ball well, he is a very good crosser of the ball and he has impressed me immensely in training so far.'

Esajas still had a year left to run on his contract in Holland but the Owls have negotiated a fee with Vitesse and Esajas could be in the squad to face Bristol on Saturday.

If he's dutch he will be good technically and i spoke to Brian Laws at the match last night and he said he is quicker than JJ and Small so he should fit in well. Bring in the Sodje bros and things are looking up!

Laws has said some have to go, at least on loan. Was worried with all the talk of the Sodje's that the left-wing position had been forgotten. If he's quicker than Small, he's bloody fast. Glad the explanation of Folly's absence has been cleared up. If someone has to go, I'd try to get rid of Lunt. A few of the younger ones could go on loan too, but I'd rather we didn't lose anyone else - the squad isn't strong enough.

i'd keep clarke i've got this sneaking feeling he could do the david hirst job for us, i'd like to see new lad and small on the wings and either the big man or burton up front with JJ. play in the style that newcastle used to play under robson with fast attacking players running at people and either a good link up man or a powerhouse in the middle
