Owls Complete Sodje Swoop

Owls Complete Sodje Swoop

Wednesday have made it two signings in a day after Owls boss Brian Laws revealed the club have brought Port Vale striker Akpo Sodje to Hillsborough.

Laws revealed the news on BBC Radio Sheffield on Wednesday night and Sodje, who won the Port Vale player of the year award last season, has penned a three year deal at Hillsborough.

The hitman, who bagged 16 goals in League One for Vale last term, has been linked with a move to S6 throughout the week but it was thought the deal had collapsed after Vale rejected the Owls approach of a player-plus-cash deal.

But the Nigerian has now put pen to paper on a three-year contract at Wednesday and could well go straight in to the Owls squad to face Bristol City at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

Laws also revealed that he was hopeful Akpo's brother, Sam, a centre-back from Reading, would complete his move to Wednesday before Friday's transfer deadline after complications in the deal.

Sam was all set to sign for the club at the start of the week but unknown complications prevented a deal going through, and Laws has now revealed that another club has entered the running for his services.

Typical. What's the betting that there are no "agent issues" with the other team that want Sam. Maclean anyone? The question is whether we have any other alternatives? Is it Sam Sodje or no defender. That'd be a concern.

2 players in 1 day?!! I have a feeling leon clarke may be off on loan somewhere, oh well lets hope akpo can do it for us on the pitch, maybe a couple of new faces on saturday will give the club a boost! and my best wishes go to yoann folly I just read about him, I always thought there was a rift between him and laws but if memory serves me right, laws got him a new contract the minute he arrived at hillsborough so lets hope he feels better after his goal the other night and gets some time on the pitch this weekend!

I am very impressed with this guy. I have just watched every one of his 16 goals from last season via the Premium TV subscription website. Not one was a tap in, he's strong, got good feet and is an excellent finisher. He also does a funny dance every time he scores. If he stays fit, he will be a bubbly character to have around and will become a fans favourite.

Get behind Brian Laws and the team - He's a proper bloke and he's doing his best in difficult circumstances. No one said it would be easy. Who cares if we let in 3 as long as we can score 4.

Hmmm, Southampton are quite attractive. Wonder if playing with his brother will be enough to get him to Hillsborough. I imagine it will be if we keep *****ing about with agents and Southampton just get on with it. Come on Brian, make it happen. Let's have Sammy too!
