Addicks Hijack Sodje Bid

Wednesday target Sam Sodje looks set to reject an offer to move to Hillsborough in favour of a move to Championship rivals Charlton Athletic.

The former Brentford man, who is surplus to requirements at the Madjeski Stadium after falling down the pecking order, was all set for a permanant move to South Yorkshire at the start of the week after agreeing terms with the Owls.

But he now looks set for a u-turn after Alan Pardew showed interest in signing the defender at the last minute, with Sodje preferring to stay closer to home rather than move to Yorkshire.

'There's creeping movement on that one, I would say,' Royals boss Steve Coppell told the club's official website regarding Sodje. 'Inevitably there will be a last minute flurry of activity.

'Something will happen I think, but it might be a loan, not permanent.'

Wednesday are desperate to add to their defensive ranks after a poor start to the season and had banked on Sodje putting pen to paper on a switch to S6.

And the move looked even more likely after Wednesday also snapped up Sam's brother Akpo from Port Vale on a three-year deal yesterday.

But the Owls could well be forced to revert to 'plan b' with just two days remaining to bolster their squad before the close of the transfer window at midnight tomorrow.

lets hope plan b is somebody with a bit of quality

Another one bites the dust. No-one wants to come to Hillsboro unless from a lower league team. No chance of getting Premiership class players in - even reserve team players don't want to come. Think DA has had enough - tryin to get his money back then he'll be out in a shot - more than likely leavin us in the ****. He's obviously not interested anymore, nor is anyone else with any money.
swfcjambo
He's already signed for them on loan. Why Laws makes public the players he wants to sign weeks in advance I'll never know - it's backfired every time. He should just keep his mouth shut.
onedeaddj
I dont think we have a plan 'b' . Not one that involves bringing in a quality centre half anyway
thewalkleyone
wednesdayites shud just sell there share now they there not doin no gd for club its all about money now and if we want tht were guna have to sell to somone
boothe
yes mate the b is short for bull****
Holl
please god let steve watson be fit for sat cus if not its bullen or hinds n we'll be humiliated on sky tv!!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
He might put Akpo at the back and leave Bullen out of the way up front. We normally do things like that.
thewalkleyone
Bring back Coughlan!!!!!!!!! or Des Walker depends who wants less wages i suppose
Bigash
couglan should never have been sold. It has just left us with very few defensive options, this has been highlighted in every game. WE NEED DEFENSIVE COVER NOW
swfcjambo
danny mills has just gone to charlton on loan, hopefully that means they leave sodje alone
Norman
Nope, they're having both Norman!

AFTA SEEING HIS SENDING OFF IN MID WEEK THANK GOD HE IS GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE. HOPEFULLY LAWS AS GOT A PLAN B OR WE WILL AFTER SCORE 5 EVERY WEEK FOR A DRAW AND 10 FOR A WIN. GET IT SORTED BRIAN

Brian Laws didn't publicise Sam Sodje - Radio Sheffield did. Laws confirmed it when it was a done deal. As usual, "unforseen circumstances" mean we miss out. Hopefully we can get someone else in. Don't like our chances though. Think we'll have to wait until the loan market opens again in a couple of weeks.
Disgruntled Owl
If we don't get a strong/pacey CB in before the window closes we're in BIG, BIG trouble :(
Placebo
I wonder if Reading were creating difficulties so that they could see if anyone else got interested in Sam. Charlton are willing to pay a lot more than us unsurprisingly.
Disgruntled Owl
Thats their choice really. I thought he had only gone on loan for the season. Maybe we wanted him on loan but wanted Reading to pay his wages.
thewalkleyone
Give Beevers a go
HootingMad
Laws said that if he signed for us it would be easier to get him on loan then he would have time to thrash out a permanent deal.
Skeggy Owl
I think Charlton could find promotion difficult this year. They've just sent Amdy Faye and Marcus Bent out on loan. If I was a Charlton fan, I'd be concerned.
Disgruntled Owl
It has been confirmed that Sodje has now signed for Charlton on a season long loan
CLIFFANDJ
What's this talk of us getting Majid back on loan?!? Come on BL, less than 10 hours to get at least one decent defender at least on loan til January. BBC sport says that Bully could be going to Inverness?? Good riddance I say, but that leaves us without backup at centre back too. Worrying. I know Brian, sign some more attackers!
S6Apple
Sign some more attackers? This isn't Sheff United! :-)
The problem isn't getting someone in on loan - the premiership clubs are desperate to get their youngsters some first team practice. The problem is getting someone in on loan whose got a bit of experience and ability. At least Watson is back for tomorrow.
Disgruntled Owl
On an unrelated note........Chris Brunt says the West Brom Squad is full of talent...........Well on transfer deadline day, they lost Nathan Ellington, Curtis Davies and John Hartson along with the already departed Koumas, Kamara, McShane, Watson and even Sam Sodle was ever present last term..........the bank must look good, but the squad isnt too amazing now.
Bigash
Oh and can people stop getting on jermaine johnson's back, how can he show his pace when he recieves the ball with his back to goal. When he recieves the ball in front of him, we all know his qualities. I predict a top 4 finish!
Bigash
Plan B - lets not "B"other signing a defender!
swfcjambo
Plan B - Save Money
Bigash
jj has to show a bit more commitment i think , totally agree though, there is no point getting on anyones back, it's never gonna help!!! would love to see a top 4 finish, but , alas i see a long hard winter ahead.

another one bites the dust.
