A behind-closed-doors friendly with Hull on Tuesday night was the perfect opportunity for several Wednesday first teamers to work on their fitness.
The international break came too soon for Owls new boys Etienne Esajas and Akpo Sodje: both were in need of match action. Yoann Folly and Kenny Lunt bolstered the midfield of a line up which drew 0-0 with the Tigers in a specially arranged fixture.
Esajas and Sodje both completed 90 minutes, Lee Grant and Rob Burch both saw some action, and a young back four featuring future Owls stars Liam McMenamin and Mark Beevers did well to hold off a Hull strike force augmented by former Premiership stars Jay Jay Okocha and Henrik Pedersen.
Owls assistant manager Russ Wilcox told the SWFC official web site: 'We had the most clear-cut chances and the attitude and application from our boys was first class.. it was an excellent work-out and I was really pleased for our young defenders because three of our back four were young lads and performed very well. I was very pleased with the performance overall.'
The Owls line up: Grant (Burch); McMenamin, Liversidge, Beevers, Gilbert (Kay), McAllister (McClements), Folly, Lunt, Esajas, Sodje, Boden (Bradley).
In other news: the date for the Carling Cup tie against Everton has been announced: Wednesday, September 26 with a 7.45pm kick-off. Tickets priced at £15 for adults and £7 for concessions.
