Former Owls Reunite

Former Owls Paul Sturrock and Jon-Paul McGovern have been reunited after the Scot completed his move from MK Dons to Sturrock's Swindon Town over the weekend.

The County Ground club have already been named 'Wednesday Mark 2' by Owls fans after former boss Sturrock took a number of his former blue and white wizards to Wiltshire, including Barry Corr and Steve Adams, who joined Lee Peacock in the Robins squad.

And Sturrock has continued the trend after penning the former Wednesday crowd favourite to a three-year deal with Town ahead of the close of the transfer window last Friday.

And McGovern was full of praise for his former Hillsborough gaffer with whom he helped take the Owls to promotion from League One in 2005.

'I have had two managers at MK Dons that I did not feel were as good for me as Paul Sturrock was so that was a massive reason to come here and work with someone who knows what I want and I know what he wants,' McGovern told the Swindon Advertiser.

'You get a working relationship with someone. He is very straight talking and that is who I am as a person and as a player. I feel if I am doing well I want to know and if I am doing bad by all means tell me.

'I think he helped my career and hope I can help Swindon and he can help me.'

The former Celtic jet-heeled winger arrived at Hillsborough under boss Chris Turner in the summer of 2004 and was a key figure at helping the Owls to promotion in his first season at the club.

But JP endured a tough time with injuries the following season and was shipped out to MK Dons two years later on a free transfer to the dismay of some Owls fans.

And now he'll be hoping Sturrock can perform similar miracles during his time at Swindon to get them back in the Championship - and a possible clash with Wednesday in the not so distant future.
