Franny Set For Return

Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers is set to return to the fold for the crunch trip to Preston North End on Saturday after coming through his reserve outing unscathed.

The former Everton and Arsenal man has played just one full game since making his move from Blackburn Rovers in the summer, and will be a huge boost to Owls boss Brian Laws as he looks to guide his charges off the bottom of the Championship this weekend.

Jeffers had picked up a calf injury just minutes in to his home debut against Wolves last month and will be looking to fire the Owls to their first points of the season at Deepdale, against a Preston side who've endured a similar poor start to their campaign.

Also in the running for a place in the squad is winger Wade Small, who scored in the 5-1 reserve match victory over Grimsby Town reserves on Tuesday night.

Small enjoyed a fine start to the new season but has failed to feature in recent games following a hamstring injury.

Both players are set to be monitored by the Owls management staff in training this week but could be set for a place on the coach to Lancashire this Saturday.

The injury boosts will give a welcome selection headache for Laws, following the arrivals of Akpo Sodje and Etienne Esajas before the close of the transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday Reserves 5 - Grimsby Reserves 1 ...................The goalscorers Etienne Esajas2, Wade Small, Jason Bradley and Luke Boden. Im really impressed with this new dutch lad, he is premiership quality. If we win Preston on saturday, i hope for a big 23,000 at hillsbrough for a win againts Burnley too. Performance is there......Just No Luck.

Give me Ten 1-0 dour wins sat freezing cold anytime. Cos that would mean we would only need 10 more to be safe. And lets be honest. 40 points from where we are now is as good as we can hope for. If we get them before the end of January, then the next objective has to be the playoffs
