Clarke Enjoys Shrimpers Boost

Wednesday striker Leon Clarke seems to be enjoying his loan move to Southend United, after scoring his second goal in as many games for the Shrimpers at the weekend.

The hitman was loaned out to the League One club after failing to impress Owls boss Brian Laws in the Wednesday first-team but has since proved himself at United with two goals in two games.

The former Wolves frontman netted the only goal with a fine finish to give Southend all three points at another of his former clubs, Oldham Athletic, at the weekend.

The goal comes after netting one and also setting up two goals in the Shrimpers' emphatic 3-0 victory over Gillingham at Roots Hall the previus week to get his career at Southend off to a superb start.

And Southend have managed two wins from two since Clarke's arrival in League One.

Clarke told the official Southend website: 'I managed to get the goal but it was all about the team today and their effort.'

The 22-year-old was loaned out to Southend until January after Akpo Sodje and Francis Jeffers arrived through the doors at Hillsborough, and will be wanting to continue his fine form when Southend face Doncaster Rovers at home on Saturday.

keep going leon
will it ever happen
That's just the journos take on it, Laws has always praised Clarke, never said he's not impressed by him. I think the primary issue was that Laws expected to make 1 or 2 loan signings and as there's no leeway in the wages budget had no choice but to loan the two players out, which he has done.

Clarke didnt impress me either. Maybe, he has found his level. Lets hope he gains a load of confidence and comes back in January into a winning side and take it on from there.
