Clarke Nominated For Award

Wednesday striker Leon Clarke has been nominated for September's Powerade Player of the Month award for League One for his impressive loan stint at Southend United.

The Wednesday hitman has been in unstoppable form since making the loan switch to the Shrimpers by bagging a superb five goals in as many games, including four from four for September.

And the momth could get better for the former Wolves man after being nominated for the player of the month award.

Clarke was shipped out on loan to United after failing to make an impression on Owls boss Brian Laws, with the Owls gaffer revealing the young forward man would benefit from first team action elsewhere.

But Laws could now re-call Clarke from his stint should he continue to bang in the goals, although Southend will be keen to hang on to their star man - with a full deal reported to be on the table already.

Clarke faces competition from Casper Ankergren (Leeds), Junior Agogo (Nottingham Forest) and Tamika Mkandawire (Leyton Orient) to win the award, which is revealed on Sky Sports' Big Weekend 2 show on Monday night.
