Laws Blasts Sleepy Owls

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was left to rue poor defending as Leicester City inflicted another crushing defeat on the Owls at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Gareth McAuley and an Akpo Sodje own goal was enough to give Gary Megson three points back on his old stomping ground, after another poor start saw the Foxes bag two goals in the opening 15 minutes.

And although Wednesday had key defenders missing from the clash, the Owls gaffer expects his charges to put on a better show at the back if they're to start climbing up the Championship table.

'We lost the game in the first ten minutes today,' he told the official SWFC website.

'We went to sleep at two set pieces and it has cost us dearly. Leicester were playing with a back five at home and away, keeping it tight and scoring the majority of their goals at set plays.

'We said before the game about making sure we are organised, positioned well and making sure we are first to the ball. If you achieve that you give yourself a fighting chance. It doesn't matter if you play poorly or you play well, you've got to get your basics right to get you through the game. Within ten minutes our whole game plan was turned upside down.

'It would be easy for me to stand here after the game and make excuses; we've lost quality players - the whole back four wasn't what we would choose on a Saturday afternoon, but that's not good enough. If you are not organised and you are not prepared to do the job you are asked to do then it is going to cost you.'

Can't believe how boring it was! OK so we conceded 2 early on but it would have been easier to stomach if the players had spent the rest of the match looking like they actually wanted to put things right and looking like they wanted to score rather than playing nice triangles, switching it, playing nice triangles, etc, etc. Dreadful game. On a positive note, though Beavers did OK for a youngster when he came on
