'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Franny Steps Up Comeback

Injury-ravaged striker Francis Jeffers is on course to resume full training according to Wednesday boss Brian Laws - who was pleased with his performance for the reserves yesterday.

The Owls' 'fox in the box' netted and performed well in Wednesday's 2-1 reserve team victory over Hull City on Tuesday, and the Owls boss believes the former Everton and Arsenal man is getting back to his best.

'He was very alert and had seven attempts at goal in the first half; he's disappointed he didn't get a hat-trick,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'He's looking sharp, and his movement was very good. I was really pleased with him.'

Jeffers, who has netted just the one goal in the 1-0 victory over Hull City since making his summer move from Blackburn Rovers, has seen his career ravaged by injuries so far.

And Laws insists he and his medical staff at Middlewood Road won't be rushing his number nine back in to action and risk losing him again in the coming weeks.

He added: 'We want to help him get his fitness back but to protect him and do it in a controlled way.'
