'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kav Targets Former Club

On-loan midfielder Graham Kavanagh admits the next three games could well shape the Owls' season - starting at his former club Stoke City tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).

Kavanagh and his Wednesday team-mates have had two weeks to digest their below-par performance against Leicester City which saw them fall to a disappointing defeat to the Foxes at Hillsborough.

They'll be looking to pick up a positive result against a Stoke side, who although may be depleted in attack, will still be full of confidence after a start to the season which sees them currently sitting pretty in fifth.

And the experienced former Republic of Ireland international knows what it takes to get out the Owls' current 'grim' position - thanks to his time in the red and white of Stoke.

'The situation at the moment is grim because of the position we're in, and the last performance wasn't up to scratch,' Kavanagh told the Sheffield Star.

'We need to put it right. The next three games will shape the rest of the season. If it doesn't happen for us in this next week, we're in a relegation fight from now to the end of the season.

'I've been in one of those before, at Stoke; they're horrible; they mean a lot of sleepless nights and heartache.'

The Dubliner spent almost five years at Stoke after making a £250,000 move from Middlesbrough, and went on to play 195 league games in the red and white, hitting 33 goals before securing a £1 million move to Cardiff.

Kavanagh is sure to get a good reception from the City faithful at the Britannia on Saturday, but Owls fans will be hoping he gets a more heated reception while leaving the field, after helping Wednesday secure an unlikely win.
