Owls Fans' Derby Day Confidence

Wednesday fans are confident of a derby day victory according to the latest poll on Vital Sheffield Wednesday.

63 per cent of Vital Sheffield Wednesday users thought the Owls could topple their Bramall Lane neighbours in the Sheffield derby at Hillsborough later this month.

The results came in after the dissapointing defeats away at Leeds United and at home to Luton Town last night, but wednesdayites still feel confident of getting one over the Blades, who are flying high in second place in the Championship.

Despite two defeats on the bounce, Wednesday have had something of a mini revival towards the end of December and into January which may have prompted Owls fans to vote for a win on the 18th February.

United are fighting at the other end of the table to the Owls, and look certain for promotion to the Premiership - but they will still go all-guns-blazing for a derby victory at Hillsborough.

In light of this, 35 per cent of Vital Sheffield Wednesday users think the Blades will leave Hillsborough with the three points.

United stole a narrow victory over Wednesday in December when Blades fans were predicting a hammering and only ended up winning 1-0, despite some Wednesday pressure in the second half.

A derby match can go anyway though, and this time Wednesday will be the underdogs - a tag wednesdayites aren't used to in Steel City derby matches. There's also the slight importance of three points in the fight against relegation, so I'm sure Paul Sturrock will have the players up for this one. He may also have Steve Maclean and Jon-Paul McGovern available for selection after suffering long lay-off

Two per cent of fans were undecided.
