Kav Staying A Black Cat

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has blocked a move from Wednesday to keep Graham Kavanagh on loan at Hillsborough for a further month.

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was hoping to keep the experienced midfielder for a further month after his initial spell at S6 came to an end following the 2-1 victory over Blackpool on Saturday.

And the former Republic of Ireland international insisted that he could still remain in the blue and white of the Owls should Sunderland's injury problems improve this week.

But the Black Cats boss has today insisted that Kav will be in contention for Sunderland's next game and will not be returning on loan to S6 just yet.

'Graham is very much a Sunderland player and is contention now for our next game,' Keane told the Sheffield Star.

'He has got a few games under his belt and the benefit of that is clear. Brian Laws has been on the phone to me every day but sometimes you just have to think about yourself.'

Kavanagh had a big impact since joining the Owls, helping them climb up the table during his short spell, and also netting one goal in the defeat at Watford.

And Vital Sheffield Wednesday understands that Laws will keep a close eye on the goings on up at Sunderland with the hope of bringing the former Cardiff and Stoke man back to Hillsborough should he fall out of favour at the Stadium of Light.

Never was going to come back, this month anyway with all the injuries Sunderland have at the moment. Maybe in the near future when their injuries clear up he may come back.
